In-demand Wolfsburg star Kevin De Bruyne has hit out at Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho for selling him 18 months ago.

The Belgian hotshot has emerged as one of Europe’s hottest properties after a stellar 2014-15 campaign that included 16 goals and 27 assists in all competitions.

He joined the Bundesliga outfit for £18 million in January, 2014, after struggling for first-team chances under Mourinho.

The 23-year-old has been linked with a £50m summer move to Manchester City, and De Bruyne hopes that the Portuguese coach regrets selling him.

“I still don’t understand why Jose Mourinho let me leave. I never discussed it with him. I started to play and then it was finished,” he told The Express.

“After four months, I asked him to leave. I didn’t want to stay at a club where I wasn’t even playing for 10 minutes. He said it was my attitude in training? It is an excuse he can use.

“But no-one can say that as they haven’t seen me train. I don’t think that in Belgium or in the Bundesliga they have complained about this.

“That is the way it is. I am not angry. When I was transferred to Wolfsburg, Chelsea got their money. Everyone was happy.”

Chelsea fans – was Mourinho wrong to let him leave? Let us know below.

I think it wasn’t right to sell him I think time chelsea starts making use of dier starlets rather than spending so much on already big names. Just look at wat dey are planning to do to kennedy. Barca gave Neyma a chance and he has won a champions league trophy.

The error Mourinho has made is when selling a player that he does not regard well is to have a buy-back contract (e.g. 25% more than selling price) over a fixed time period (e.g. three years). It’s so fundamental and yet profoundly significant. Give yourself a chance for a midcourse correction.

We’ve seen this with De Bruyne and even Salah and Schurrle.
On the other hand, I understand the younger Hazard has a buy back.

Ironically, Man U. did this with Pogba, and more ironically Pogba may not go to Chelsea because De Bruyne may be used in exchange now.

Yes he was wrong in selling de bruyne because he (mourinho) did not take time to study the boy before selling him.

I was unhappy when Jose sell De Bruyne, I knew then that we will regret it, I don’t think he can come back to Chelsea again, I don’t know why Morinho use to sell young talented players like Salah,Schurle ,and a host of others.

chelsea needs the players who can possibly hold the ball ,so i think jose mourihno made a big mistake in selling these young players. In barcelona squid they all tarented players coz they dont give away anyhow, everyone is given a chance.

playing for wolfsbourg is easy than playing for Chelsea

  9. Ronald says:

Because he wanted him to prove himself as he is doing at wolfsburg. What he is doing at wolfsburg is not what he was doing at Chelsea…

  10. Unamba says:

Jose do not believe in long term policy when it comes to players.
He prefers immediate results that upgrades his records.
    Jose loves it sharp-sharp.
