hi-res-169057244_crop_650Rumours were circulating yesterday suggesting that Real Madrid were interested in purchasing Chelsea’s David Luiz and today the Daily Mail believe Barcelona will join the race and Jose Mourinho will sanction the sale of the Brazilian.

Mourinho hasn’t even been officially announced and he’s already making big decisions over players he’s never worked with, allegedly. The report says that the outgoing Real Madrid coach isn’t convinced by Luiz’s defensive capabilities.

Luiz cost Chelsea £21 million plus Nemanja Matic when he signed from Portuguese side Benfica in 2011 and it’s likely the club would make a profit if they did sell to one of the Spanish giants for around £30 million.

The Mail believe that Mourinho wants a new central defender, a defensive midfielder and a forward, a significant amount of the budget would go on the latter.

Chelsea have shown an interest in Schalke’s Krygiakos Papadopoulos but consider him too expensive and Jose is keen on bringing Real’s Raphael Varane with him. There isn’t a snowball’s chance in hell that Varane is coming to Chelsea in the summer and it has nothing to do with politics at the Madrid club, they don’t want to sell him and why would they?

We we need a central defender whether Luiz stays or not and would probably need two if he was to leave. He does suffer lapses in concentration but was our best centre-back over the season, especially as John Terry’s years of playing through injuries seems to have caught up with him.

Luiz can be a pain in the backside but I doubt any manager would want to offload someone of his talent before having the chance to work with them, it just doesn’t make sense to me and even less so when the report goes on to say that most of our defensive targets look unlikely at this stage.

    I agree but my only concern and I guess how those loose thread journos have come up with these whispers, is if Chelsea or Mourinho really want Khedeira (spelling?sorry) then Real are only likely to sell if a player they want more is thrown in, likewise but less likely with Varane. Real do usually get what they want but we’re certainly no selling club. Main point you make which suggests these are just fancy whispers is how Jose could already decide to sell without even seeing him close up, even in pre-season. Here’s hoping we keep our geezer! Even if Khedira come in, it wouldn’t mean Luiz is leaving. I think his future is as a defender. Mourinho could make him a better one and may even take on Luiz as a personal project.

    This would be the most ignorant transfer ever by chelsea. I believe luiz is worth 50 plus million pounds. I say this based on one fact…there is not another central defender in the world with his skill set. I challenge anyone to find another center back that does have his skill set…pace, power, flair, pin point passing (long and short), dribbling, shooting, free kicks…any defensive lapses can and will be sorted with time and maturity as well as coaching. You can’t teach a defender all the skill sets he has…but you can certainly teach positioning and proper defending. Look at mikel…he couldn’t stay on his feet or on the pitch for his first few years…now when he playshe rarely makes a rash tackle.

    Luiz is not for sell. it’s better to have Luiz than the coach Mourinho. Luiz is the power house in defence. why not selling John Terry than Luiz? Mourinho needs his old guys than news ones. we don’t want that at Chelsea.

    we need a new coach to replace John Terry, one defensive midfielder to pair with Ramires, one striker to share with Lukaku. a new coach have to off load the following;
    Fereira, Malouda, John Terry, Benayoun, Torres, and Demba BA.

    It does not make sense to me that Mourinho will be thinking of off loading Luiz when he is yet to be announced as the new Chelsea coach.Why are we not hearing that he wants to off load Terry or A. cole? Perhaps this is a rumour. It had better be otherwise Mourinho should think of rebuilding his fame that is fast fading away. He should think about better ways of doing things than his present style that has seen him become a not wanted person in Real. Hope he will not disappoint so many Chelsea fans this time arround

  7. ushie says:

    If Jose mou, coming to Chelsea to sale luiz, then let him pls remain in Madrid n not to destroy de club 4 us, cos luiz is de power house of chelsea. Roma should not approve of this, mou should look else were.

  8. Timlos says:

    Chelsea would be insane to sell Luiz. Luiz with Ramires are the future for playing in front of the back 4. He is like our Yaya Toure. This rumour is coming from the Spanish muppets who think they can plunder anywhere they want (Ronaldo). Sorry, we do not want Khedira, not in a 1000 years. Will rather take Alonzo over him. Luiz stays.
