Spanish club Atletico Madrid have admitted that selling Colombian forward Radamel Falcao could solve their financial difficulties but believe he will still be at the Vicente Calderón at the end of the season.

Falcao has been in sensational this season after scoring 11 goals in seven appearances but was already attracting interest from Europe’s biggest clubs after his heroics with former club Porto and his 36 goals in his debut season for Atletico last year.

The 26-year-old has some big name admirers in the Premier League including Chelsea, Manchester City and Arsenal (like they’ll pay up) could either the Blues or the Citizens meet his €60m (approx £48m) buyout clause in the January transfer window?

Atletico general manager says that the sale could solve their money worries:

“€60m (£48m) for Falcao would solve all the economic problems at Atletico.

“I can say for sure, though, that he will stay with us until the end of the season.

“Not only will he stay, but so will all the players that the coach wants to stay.

“We will fight to perform a miracle which is what we are doing with what we have available.

“In Europe there are 50 clubs with more income than we have. If we were to sell Falcao for €60m, then that would cover our debts.”

I don’t think anyone will be waiting until the end of the season if they’re interested because Paris Saint-Germain are willing to meet Falcao’s release clause during the winter transfer window, according to Sky Sports pundit Guillem Balague.

I’m not entirely sure why City would want him when they already have the likes of Carlos Tevez, Edin Dzeko and Sergio Aguero within their ranks. Whereas we’re in need of another forward as we’ve only Fernando Torres and Daniel Sturridge to call upon and although Torres has been finding the net more than he has previously, he still hasn’t looked convincing.

At the moment Falcao is the best striker in the world, in my opinion, and he’d be an incredible signing for Chelsea. Do you think we should invest the £48 it will take to sign him, stick with what we have or seek a cheaper alternative?

    Steal of a deal.

  2. Alex says:

yes but only if we sell torres or change our formation to two up front because there is no point buying him and then having a £50 million pound sitting on the bench.

  3. Mike B says:

With that kind of player, along with the new addiditions, we could actually retain the Champions League, I know it will be tough, but possible. Then that would pay for Falcao & leave enough change for Neymar. Also Lamps big eages off the bill would help!

  4. Dan says:

No. He might be worth the money in your Fantasy Football World, but anyone with any sense wouldn’t think about it.

Not entirely sure what your point is regarding the ‘Fantasy Football World’ comment. We’re discussing the real world, Dan.

For example, Van Persie went to United for £25m and he was in the last year of his contract, so you have to pay up for the best striking talent. We thought Torres was and coughed up £50m, so why’s it so hard to believe someone will pay £48m for Falcao?

As 4 me CAPITAL NO…Lets get a cheaper strika or mayb invest on yung neyma…Falcao case wil end up as hulk’s.Dnt b suprised falcao is headin 2 psg.

I think stevan jovetic is a better buy I dnt see torres benching falcao buying falcao would mean torres has to go and I don’t see chelsea doing that as torres sells a lot of shirts for them

    • Anthony Williams says:

If we’re talking marketability, it’s true Falcao doesn’t really fall under that category and would be a pure football signing.

If you want to make money off a player’s name and image as well as bringing in top talent, then Neymar would be your first port of call, especially if you could sign him before the World Cup.

  6. Gary says:

He is 26, will be 27 in the summer. Most of his football years are gone. He is not worth the price and does not fit the youth policy. We need to aim for someone that can give Chelsea 10-12 years and grow with the team. Neymar? Schurrle?

  7. Victor emue says:

Mr. Abramovich try and get us de hitman call falcao as you did for torres, no matter any amount they said and you falcao make your heart and follow us, chelsea need you. Up blues 4live and 4ever.

  8. Morrison says:

falcao would be good if we get rid of torres otherwise it’s to much talent.. and i dont think we’ll get rid of torres cuz hes doin fine.. i would say buy some one alot younger to replace torres in the future.. maybe chicharito or neymar

  9. tunex says:

Chelsea to get falcao will need him very much. A good striker must not be too skillfull. Falcao is not too skillfull as torres. Up chelsea.
