Roberto Di Matteo’s Chelsea begin their defence of their Champions League title tomorrow night at Stamford Bridge in Group E.

Team news: John Terry should be available for selection after shaking off a knee injury that he picked up against QPR at the weekend after coming through a full training session today.

John Obi Mikel should also be fit to start despite a slight back injury whilst Juan Mata is expected to play after being rested at the weekend.

The team I’d choose:

P. Cech

B. Ivanovic – D. Luiz – J. Terry – A. Cole

J. Mikel – Ramires

V. Moses – E. Hazard – J. Mata

F. Torres

We ought to start using Cesar Azpilicueta more as he’s a more natural right-back than Branislav Ivanovic but I doubt Di Matteo will try it out in a big Champions League game, but I want to see him in their against Stoke at the weekend.

In midfield, Frank Lampard isn’t playing well enough in his position and constantly breaks forwards and leaves Mikel exposed, so we should try something new and rest him. We need someone that’s going to pass forwards or drive the ball on, not someone that passes sideways and makes a dash for the penalty area.

Fernando Torres upset a few fans by storming down the tunnel without shaking Di Matteo’s hand and staying to support his team-mates after he was substituted late against Wigan. I think he’s going to have to accept that he cannot simply have a monopoly on the centre forward position unless he puts in consistent performances. Daniel Sturridge is there and has made an impact from the bench in the games he’s come on in this season.

Most of all, I hope Robbie plays players in their natural positions.

Who’d be in your Chelsea XI for our Champions League opener v Juventus? – Have you say in the comments section below

For me the best formation at this match should be :cech,
    Ivanovic,luiz,cahill,A cole
    Mikel,ramires
    Moses,mata,hazard
Sturridge any who can not bring out result should be left out all this tired legs in chelsea should be rested and for what Torres did against QPR he should be kept for like 3 good matches †? serve as warning †? the rest and also him this isn’t football all we need ?????? result and not big names

The formation above is good any chelsea formation without lampard am ok with it

  3. Makelo says:

The formation is aceptable except, azpi shuld start in place of uncreative nd unskilful ivanovic.Mikel and oscar wil do us more gud than mikel and ramires.Though i undastnd andrea pirlo needs shakeoffs nd hard tackles but that cant be compard to our young talent oscar whn can equaly be deadly when given the chance.Tores shuld start nd 4 no reasn shuld sturidge go to the wings again, cos tores shuld be made to undastnd that ‘competition’ has come btwn himself nd sturidge..Up blues lets hope bad team selectn wunt ruin our night.

9ce 4mation 4rm d analyst. All we need is goal, goal n goal, and in gud time. Hit ur opponent ön time and get them distabilised.
    4.2.3.1
    P.cech
    Ivanovic, luiz, Terry, A. Cole
    Mikel Ramires
    Moses, Mata, Hazard
    Sturridge.
Torres 4 nw lacks retention of balls up frönt 4 nw and easily dispossesd, i dnt knw if u notice dat recently. Such a player cnt goal. Moses can cut in frm d right flank releasing Mata or Sturridge 2 goal. D later has learnt his lessons, he’s nt selfish wit balls agn. I wish Chelsea succes 2nite.
    BLUES TIL DEATH.

Yes I see he lacks retention but only because we are lumping high balls up to him and he ain’t Drogba he needs it on the floor and players to get around him

It makes no sense spending almost 100mil pounds trying to rejuvinate the team cos we lacked players then at the end we play only 32mil pounds then keep almost 60 + mil pounds on the bench without trying to mke them blend cos of a ldgend who doesnt want to behave like a true legend like giggs n scholes. Lampard has served, let him be a guardian to others. RDM is definately afraid of lampard and to accomodate him,he needs to play ppl out of position and bench 60mil +. Why did we buy players? Pls lets stop this talk of long term replacement talks. We need immediate replacements! If u luv d club, u wil accept change as regards moving d club foward except u are hunting for ur own glory in d guise of club interest. Thank you my fellow faithfuls.

The recent criticism against Lamps is encouraging. Lampard should play Giggs role henceforth. Who watched Essy hold down City’s attack yestanight? Thatz de kind of DMF we need. Mikel isnt certainly de best, but we’ve got none better. Let’s pray he keeps on improvin. I’ll go wit Iva-Cahill-J.T-Cole
    Mikel-Ramires
    Moses-MATA-Eden
    Sturidge
