Young Belgian stars Eden Hazard, Thibaut Courtois, Romelu Lukaku and Kevin De Bruyne are already on the books at Chelsea but could we add yet another Belgian to the squad by signing Everton midfielder Marouane Fellaini?

John Cross at the Mirror seems to think we’re interested in Fellaini and will be willing to splash out around £20m on the 24-year-old in order to convince the Toffees to part with him, which they will likely accept as they are in need of the cash.

He’s been a good addition to the playing squad at Goodison since arriving from Standard Liege in 2008 and it’s believed that we want to sign him to be our new midfield enforcer, but do we really need to spend that sort of cash on a player like Fellaini?

If someone like Fellaini was to arrive then I’m guessing one of our existing midfielders will be sold to make way, most likely Michael Essien, who can’t quite seem to get over the injury problems that have effectively ruined the best part of his time at the club. But with Frank Lampard, John Obi Mikel, Raul Meireles and Oriol Romeu, do we need another midfielder? Also, I don’t believe Fellaini is a much better player than Mikel, who is highly underrated in my view and showed his class in the latter round of the Champions League last season in particular.

It’s not the first time we have been linked with the player so there could be something in these rumours, but then again, it could just be lazy journalism and personally I hope it’s the latter as I’m not a fan.

What are your opinions on this rumour?

Me too no fn of Fellani, i would rather prefer Dembele cheap and better play maker! Our first choice would always be Modric or better lets wait for Euro am sure too many talents are awaiting at the other side.

i would not take him free, sorry!

Comparing Fellaini to Dembele or Modric isn’t apt. The latter two are excellent playmakers (not necessarily scorers) and would still be valuable additions to the team but they aren’t the type of player Fellaini is. And I agree that Mikel has really come into his own after some spotty performances in the first half of the year. But he still is too easily dispossessed of the ball by players at his back and is incredibly slow to start the offense when he has won possession. That’s covered in the 4-2-3-1 when Frank or Meireles are alongside but we haven’t had the solid holding midfielder that can win tackles and immediately start the offense on his own since Essien was healthy. Fellaini does this and is a prime threat in the air. Mikel, for all his positives, has little to no impact in transition or in the box.

instead of fellaini denmark midfielder christian eriksen is better.

Sorry but I must disagree. Marouane Fellaini is an excellent and virsatile midfield player who can just as easily play midfield ‘enforcer’ as you put it or join in with attacks moving forward. He has been one of the back bone players to keep Everton fighting above their weight for the last few seasons and Jon Obi Mikel doesn’t come anywhere close to this guy. You would only need to compare the stats for goals scored, assists, tackles completed, passes completed and yardage covered to fully appreciate the effort Fellaini puts into every game. Mikel IMHO is a liability and should NOT be in front of Romeu in the pecking order. In fact he shouldn’t even be in our squad. I believe it is RDM’s choice of Mikel over Essien for the DM spot and his insistance of playing Kalou and bringing Malouda on all of the time that has stopped Roman and the club appointing him as our Manager. Kalou has gone thank god, lets hope Malouda AND Mikel now follow him so that ‘if’ Roberto is made Manager for next season he cannot pick these under performers! Also one less Africa Cup of Nations players is always a bonus. After Marin and Hazard, bringing in Hulk and Fellaini would please me greatly with the introduction also of some of our excellent youngsters to the first team squad.

I don’t ever see Fellaini producing the sort of performance Mikel did in the Champions League final. The lack of support Mikel gets is truly unbelievable, if you don’t understand his role in the team then shame on you.

We play our best football with him in the team and all this talk of him being ‘slowing down’ play and not offering anything just sounds like something the likes of Andy Townsend or Jamie Redknapp would say, and they don’t know anything either.

      Mikel > Fellaini

Save the money, or spend it on someone worth it. Fellaini is good but £20m is completely obscene.

Let us not make mistake about this, Chelsea needs Fellaini. One of our major problems last season was marking or winning tackles and the only person good at that is Ramires; we must add fellaini and let go of Essien.

  7. Michael says:

Alan Frank, i can see from ur post dat u hate d blacks, for ur information, mikel did a wonderful work for chelsea under RDM which Romeo couldn’t hav done it,RDM,been a gud coach had his starting eleven who worked tirelessly nd in d end, trophies came more especially CL,so go nd be chelsea manager by dat u can sell mikel.

  8. kofi anam says:

mikel has been de power house of chelsea since avb left and shud not be compared wit fellaine who is only good on air.we dont need him here coz we got enough midfielders better than him

  9. Olabode Ololade says:

In my opinion Mikel is a young player that plays very well to instruction and i dnt see a reason he he be leaving the club we all know dat he is more defensive dan offensive and dats the type of player Chelsea is goin to need with the bringing of very good attackers.
