Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp says that even £35m would not be enough to tempt him to part with Luka Modric, which funnily enough is about the amount Chelsea are reportedly set to offer as a final bid for the Croatian.

The Blues have had bids of £22m and £27m knocked back so far, but Spurs are standing firm over the player despite the fact he has publicly said he wants to join Chelsea and has allegedly handed in a transfer request in an attempt to leave White Hart Lane.

Chelsea may come back with an improved bid for the player, with £35m mooted as a potential offer, but that’s not enough for ‘Arry, who appears eager to hold out for more.

When asked if £35m would be a suitable offer for Modric, Redknapp said:

“If we were looking to sell him it wouldn’t meet my valuation. I think he is worth an awful lot more money than that.

“Really, we’re not looking to sell Luka. We need to keep our best players so he is a player that we want to keep if possible. It is in the hands of the chairman of the football club [Daniel Levy]. It’s not my decision at the end of the day.

“I obviously want to keep him as the coach but the chairman says he is not for sale so we’ll have to wait and see. We’re quite determined, if we can, to hang on to him but it is a difficult situation. It’s a difficult one for Luka and it’s a difficult one for Tottenham.”

I’m not entirely sure what sort of world Redknapp is living in, but it would be good money for a player that doesn’t want to be there and I don’t think he’s worth more than the aforementioned amount. And I don’t think Chelsea will go higher than that, so Spurs are just pricing the midfielder out of the market and the move that he wants, which angers many of our fans but I think Modric was stupid to sign the long-term contract he’s tied to in the first place.

The Tottenham manager also recently claimed that everyone wants Modric:

“Everyone wants Luka. Just ask Alex Ferguson what he thinks of him, ask Roberto Mancini at Manchester City – they all want him. He could play for Barcelona.”

Do they? United may have an interest in him, but I couldn’t see him usurping Xavi or Iniesta at Barcelona and I haven’t noticed a bidding war erupt since we made an offer for the player. As it stands, we appear to be the only club in for him at the moment and represent the best opportunity for Spurs to cash in for the player.

As a Chelsea fan I’d happily leave them with a player that doesn’t want to be there and I think he’ll leave there in January or next summer if he doesn’t leave now, and I think it’s doubtful they’d get more than £35m for him then either. The sort of money we’re talking about here is Wesley Sneijder money, is Modric worth more than him? Nope.

Assuming we do make an improved offer and it is rejected, is it time to give up on Luka Modric and turn our attentions elsewhere?

Chelsea are not a bigger club than spurs anyway. Richer? Well if you count Roman’s money as your own instead of the income you generate then yes. We haven’t received an offer yet only two derisory insults designed specifically to unsettle a player who only 5 months ago signed a 6yr deal. If and when an offer arrives I’m sure it will be considered if Spurs deem the player is now for sale.

Lets get somthing straight.i admit Chelsea are a richer club.but never in a million years are they bigger. If you didn’t have abramovitch,Your small supporter base could not pay the transfer fee or the wages to get the stars to join.Chelsea are a mid size club about the size of west Ham.If your fans said “we know we are lucky but we ain’t gonna refuse his money”other fans would say fair enough.when you say you are bigger it makes you sound like someone who started watching football 5 minutes ago.If not for him you would be like Leeds. For gods sake have a bit of humility.

Chelsea are a bigger club. We have a bigger fanbase (84K sell-out in Malaysia for example), better players, better stadium, more leagues and more trophies altogether. It doesn’t matter how we got it, we still got it. Money buys players, tactics win trophies (look at Man City after 4 years with money they only have one trophy). We are one of the best TEAMS in the world. And sure we may not be a big club yet (in my eyes, you must be a European cup winner for that, really) but we are a bigger club than Tottenham who are not a big club and never have been. We obviously wouldn’t have most of the players we have right now if not for Abramovich but we did got enough funds from revenue (SB sold out more often than not) and getting in Champions League to buy some decent players. And don’t compare us to West Ham, we had double the trophies they have before Abramovich came and they have been relegated more times than they’ve won silverware

Obviously you have trouble reading.I said Chelsea are richer.Your fan base in this country is smaller.when you get a bit older you will realise this.Go and speak to some older Chelsea fans, unless they are idiots they will admit there are more Spurs fans in Englangd than Chavs.Where would you be without Abram? How could you pay the inflated wages without Abram. For gods sake don’t you know about the loses you have had in the last 5 years.Think, no cash, no stars.Or do you think the tax man would let you trade at a loss?Idiot.

        • Jacky Treehorn says:

And whatever we have achieved or not achieved,we did it by the money we raised through our fan base
You cant say the same about Chelsea.

    • Chuck Norris says:

Ye don’t be silly, Spurs are a bigger club, just look at the way the always finish above us in the league and win trophies all the time…. oh wait. Haha Spurs are shit. Don’t blame him for wanting to leave. He wants CL football.

    • Paul f says:

A few points of fact. 1. Modric stated he wanted to join chelsea, not the best club in the land. 2. Modric is prevented from joining Chelsea by contract law, not by levy. 3. Spurs have clearly stated that there was no agreement that they would listen to offers for the player. 4. Chelsea are not a bigger club than tottenham. I’d have thought this was evident to most Chelsea fans

in what way would chelsea not be a bigger club?liverpools fans have played the history card spurs cant play that,if i remember chelsea did win the leauge before spurs an older club won it,now granted chelsea had some bad luck in the champions leauge but still look at our record compaired to spurs, chelsea are working on a global fan base they are one of the most recgonised clubs in the world, they have one of the best teams in the world, personally i dont think spurs have any of those things.

        • Jacky Treehorn says:

Chelsea trade at a loss,if they were in the real world without Abram bankrolling your losses you would be like Leeds. You have a mid size fan base, thats why unlike Liverpool and Spurs you are not desperate to find a bigger stadium. Now if you want to compare how big your bank balance is compared to ours, you win hands down.Grow up and have a little humility.

Lol this is all very clever by bagpuss and slaphead. Modric is never in a million years good enough for barca and is so overrated. Twitchy always comes out with crap outrageous statements he’s an Embarrassment, full of cliches and says things like top top player (cock!!!)

He’s a midfielder who hardly ever scores, was in the team that didn’t get in the top 4 and looks like an ugly bird.

If I remember correctly Spurs did just fine when he was out injured. Take the cash and buy a decent striker.

I think the only reason you want to keep him is because you’re pissssed at Chelsea. Grow up, if he stays you’ll have a sulky twat in your team who does not want to play for you anymore. You’re like someone who’s been dumped but insist on staying together mugs!!

    • Paul f says:

And your like someone who can’t take no for an answer. Rapists

To help thge somewhat challenged, williamk icfc the nfollowing might help. Who is Levy? The Spurs Chairman who has a valid contract signed by Modric with more than 5 years left on it.With the usual lack of intelligence from a blinkered zealot the simpleton sems to be selctive with his knowledge of facts.Levy stated that if,in future an offer which was ACCEPTABLE to the club and player came in it would be considered. As the cut-price low offer from Chelsea was not ACCEPTABLE there will be no deal. I know this reading business can be a tad trying but surely before posting wee willie could have got a competent person to sit him down and explain what the statement meant. My 10 year old understood it but ahh that is the wisdom that comes with age. Willioe can aspire…..

  6. Billy says:

I agree that Modric wouldn’t get into Barca’s midfield. I think Harry was making a point that he would fit in with their style and is of similar (but less) ability.

I would guess that if you managed to agree a reasonable price with us then the likes of City and United would be interested as they are both crying out for such a player.

williamicfc, you are neither the most successful team in the land (nor London), nor the richest. Your favourite maybe, yes.

  7. davspurs says:

If we got taken over tomorrow by a oil pinching Billionaire would you sell us your best player whoever he is because at the moment its not Torres but the ageing Drugba. The answer would be no we are a well run club with no dept and ambitions with a young team and quite a few English players . Chelsea are badly run with aging players having to rebuild under the new rules you wont be able to do a City and reward yourself a big sponsorship of your own plane company so you will be kicked ut fot the Wembley year.

  8. Billy says:

I’d take £35m plus either Sturridge or Drogba (wages depending). SAturridge would be the better long term bet, I’ve liked him since his City days.

IMO Chelsea need a Modric type player and a Sneijder type player to replace Lampard, assuming you keep 4-3-3 or a variation of.

You then need a wide player or 2 as your lacking this with Malouda getting on, Kalou not impressing and Kakuta still unproven.

hahahaha……dude r we living in a same planet or wht???coz frm wht i see, modric is never gonna have a chance of threatening the likes of xavi nd iniesta not to mention thiago, busquet nd mascherano!!….
