The Neymar saga has been drawn out for some time now and reports in today’s Daily Express claim that Chelsea have balked at Santos’ £45m valuation of long-term target Neymar and insist that they won’t be held to ransom over the player.
Could Chelsea’s pursuit of the Brazilian youngster be coming to an end?
Neymar, 19, has been heavily linked to both Chelsea and Real Madrid so far this summer, which is of no surprise as he’s been tipped for great things and recently helped his side to a Copa Libertadores win over Penarol, which was Santos’ first since Pele’s era.
Pini Zahavi was in Brazil in an attempt to negotiate a deal for Neymar, but a source claimed that they were unwilling to meet Santos’ valuation:
“Chelsea want Neymar very much, but they will not pay the £45m Santos want.”
The Stamford Bridge club have been chasing the player since last summer and have been constantly linked with him, but there never seems to be a consistent straight answer from the player or his agent about what they want, which has been a constant source of frustration for Blues fans as many want to see an end to it, one way or another.
Should Roman Abramovich break the bank for the highly sought after Brazilian youngster, or should Chelsea forget about Neymar and turn their attentions elsewhere?

I have seen Neymar played a lot and he is not overrated in any way. I think he hasnt been the deserved attention as he would have in europe. I think he is not playin at his peak yet so we all can imagine what he will be like in three years. He should be the prime target for chelsea cos he will bring entertainment and silverware to this club.

Neymar is stupid. He has got skills but no strength. He is not at all fit to play english football. He is a highly over-rated player, Especially after his goal against scotland. I am not saying he is bad, he is OK but 45 million is crazy. AVB should go for modric, sniejder and pastore.
Neymar must be Chelsea’s priority. We need players that make holes in defences using good ball skill, players that can take the ball out wide to the wings, and players who can lay off good passes. And yes a playmaker like Modric will assist in this. But you have to have strikers and wingers that can do it too. And actually there is no one better at all these things than Neymar. Chelsea has chased him for so long precisely because he has always been what they needed most. I think getting him is essential. I would rather spend 45m on Neymar than 50m on Torres.
