As things stand, Chelsea are going into the transfer window with zero possibility of signing new players.
However, they would be able to register existing players for the forthcoming season – including those on loan.
But after being given the opportunity to make Mateo Kovacic’s temporary deal a permanent one, reports suggest the club are turning the midfielder down after deciding not to meet Real Madrid’s demands for the player.
Having just sold them Eden Hazard, Chelsea may have been seeking a cut-price move after leaving Kovacic out of direct negotiations within the Hazard deal.
But after being quoted €50m (£44.41m) for the 25-year-old, it seems the club will make do without the midfielder – with plenty to arrive back from loan moves this summer.
And fans agree that Kovacic would not be worth the money, with the likes of Tiemoue Bakayoko, Lewis Baker and Mason Mount all potentially returning to the Chelsea midfield next season.
Kovacic never scored for Chelsea in his brief spell at Stamford Bridge, and only assisted twice all year. With that in mind, perhaps it’s unsurprising that these Blues fans were breathing a sigh of relief as the club pass on outlaying huge money on the Croatian:
Good decision. With Bakayoko back, no need to spend that money on Kovacic. Baka has improved. Besides, they’re more midfielders.

I’d probably pay €20m but that’s a ridiculous asking price. Chance for mount to step in ????

This would be the biggest waste of money in our history

They can have him, we’re walking away. We’ll be ok with our Bakayoko ????

Never doubted this outcome. There’s absolutely nothing to suggest we’d spend that much on him when he contributed so little. Much better at the club already

Good. He’s a bang average player and we must have young players equally as good

Good riddance if true

[…] Real’s £44.4m (€50m) asking price for the midfielder has turned out to be a major obstacle. Chelsea are not […]
