Marco+van+Ginkel+Netherlands+v+Russia+UEFA+HYg2pRJ0GDxxMarco van Ginkel is looking increasingly likely to be Chelsea’s second summer signing following Andre Schurrle after the Dutchman’s agent revealed he held ‘very positive’ talks with the club’s manager.

Van Ginkel has been a reported target of the Blues over the past month or two but it’s thought that Manchester United also have an interest in the player as David Moyes sent a scout to watch the player during the recent European Under-21 Championships.

The Metro believed that negotiations for the 20-year-old between Vitesse Arnhem and Chelsea had ground to a halt, but an intervention from Jose Mourinho could see the deal done.

Karel Jansen, van Ginkel’s agent, said:

“I have spoken to Jose Mourinho and there have been very serious talks about a deal.

“There are other clubs interested, but the talks with Mourinho have been very positive.”

The story went on to say that the Blues already had a deal of £8 million snubbed by Vitesse Arnhem and that the player is valued at around £15m, but I’m not sure it would take as much as that to see the Dutchman move to Stamford Bridge.

Despite competition for his signature it is likely that Chelsea would be in pole position for van Ginkel, or any other talent at the Eredivisie club, as they share a working relationship and have had their recent success bankrolled by the West London club. The likes of Gael Kakuta, Patrick van Aanholt and Tomas Kalas have all been integral parts of the Vitesse Arnhem squad in recent seasons whilst on loan.

Any deal for the midfielder will likely include add-ons and may even include a player going the other way, but we’re loaning them a number of youngsters every season anyway.

Van Ginkel was voted as the young Dutch talent of the year and has played over 100 games for his current club, scoring 23 goal, as a box-tobox midfielder.
