Michael Ballack - Farewell MatchIt’s been on, off, on, off for some time now but Chelsea confirmed that they have agreed a fee with Bayer Leverkusen for Andre Schurrle.

As the club’s official website says, the transfer will go through ‘subject to the completion of legal documentation and related matters, including personal terms and passing a medical.’

I don’t envisage any problems there as Schurrle seems to have been set on a move to Stamford Bridge for a while and has probably agreed to terms in principle and it’s unlikely he’s going to fail a medical.

The 22-year-old has scored 14 goals for Bayer Leverkusen over the season in all competitions and has seven over his 24 caps for Germany.

Schurrle mostly operates as a left-wing or left forward and has considerable pace which could be useful on the counter attack. In the cases of emergency he could operate as a third choice forward and this could be better than using someone like Demba Ba for the role as he would expect to play in that position and take time away from Romelu Lukaku, whereas the German will only be asked to play that position under an injury/suspension crisis.

I have to be honest and admit that I’m not wholly convinced by Schurrle when I’ve seen matches from the Bundesliga and German internationals. I probably do not watch him regularly enough to pass a complete judgement but I have seen him a fair bit. There’s also a fairly damning stat doing the rounds…

However, like anyone he’ll be given his chance and he is definitely young enough to improve. It’ll be interesting to see where he fits into the side as I doubt he’d be ahead of Juan Mata, Eden Hazard or Oscar, but perhaps the latter could be moved into the central midfield role that I think he’ll operate in best.

Welcome and good luck to Andre Schurrle, but what do you think about our new signing? – Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below

Signing schurrle we give us a lot attacking option which I think is the best for the team and am sure that this guy will fit in well.

A good idea if Maren is leaving. Love his long shots, exciting stuff!

  5. liteon says:

Well I think he is a good signing but we still need sombody like cavani.

  6. Ash says:

I think he gives us an option for quality out wide, to help open defences up and quicken our play offensively. All in all it gives us more quality depth in the squad which is what we missed last season

Well…not the worst signing in the world…now bring in Cavani, Khedira and a brilliant versatile defender (RB/CB) like Subotic, then we will be great under Mourinho. Bring back Essien and keep Torres. Ferreira already retired, Malouda will leave and let go Bennayoun, I also can’t see Ba having a longterm success at the club so don’t waste time and his tallent and let him go now.
    Chelsea Squad:
    Cech, Turnbull, Hilario
Azpiliqueta, Ivanovic, Cahill, Luiz, Subotic, Terry, Bertrand, Cole
    Mikel, Essien, Khedira, Ramires, Lampard
Mata, Oscar, Hazard, Marin, Moses, Schurrle
    Torres, Lukaku, Cavani

Great player. The boy can play. good addition to squad.

I think Cavani and Khedira purchases are not nessasary. Cavani and Napoli must want to get paid before played. For his price, Lewandowski is an equivalent, efficient, and valuable option. Khedira would void Luiz in CDM role. I think Chelsea FC has pace from midfield and in attack. The defense needs help, and a player like Varane, another young player with potential, can be another great addition.

In my opinion, the potential squad for the future of Chelsea FC.
    Forwards: Lukaku, Torres, Lewandowski, Ba.
Attack Mid: Oscar, Mata, Hazard, Schurrle, Moses, Ramires.
Defense Mid: Luiz, Essien, Ramires, Lampard, Mikel.
Defenders: Ivanovic, Cahill, Varane, Terry, Cole, Azpi, Essien.
    Keeper: Cech, Begovich, Courtois.
Loans: McEachran, Marin, Kakuta, Piazon, Romeu, DeBruyne, Courtois, and mostly all the other kids who don’t get a crack at first team ball.

    But we all don’t know what’s in Jose’s mind…

    cheers lads.

20mill wasted in my opinion. He didnt score enough goals last season nor create alot of assists and he doesn’t have great pace to play out wide… He isn’t going to be in the starting 11. Should of spent the money on Lewandowski as Cavani is way over priced or made a bid for another center back.

Agree with @jake it is money spent on strengthening a position we are spoilt for choice in. Should’ve spent it on a CB or striker
