robert-lewandowski-borussia-dortmund-real-mad_2850013The Daily Express have reported that Jose Mourinho is keeping an eye on Robert Lewandowski and may be interested in bringing the Dortmund star to Stamford Bridge in he returns to Chelsea.

Forgetting the Mourinho bit (I think we’ve all had enough to the speculation now) what does everyone think about signing Lewandowski?

The 24-year-old Polish international has been touted as a long-term target for Manchester United but there would have to be a high profile departure at Old Trafford to make room for him as they already possess Robin van Persie, Javier Hernandez, Danny Welbeck and Wayne Rooney, with Rooney being linked with a move to Paris Saint-Germain.

Apparently Mourinho is impressed with Lewandowski as he has been watching plenty of Dortmund matches as he prepares his Real Madrid side for their Champions League semi-final clash against the Bundesliga club. The Pole has a market value of around £24 million, according to the Express, and arguably represents better value for money than Edinson Cavani or Radamel Falcao who could cost up to twice as much.

The other thing that stands in Lewandowski’s favour is his youth as he has a few more years in him than Cavani (26) and Falcao (27), even though neither of those players can be considered old. Don’t get me wrong, I think Falcao is the best forward in the world at the moment and I would love to have him but Lewandowski’s link-up play is better in my opinion and he’s more than used to playing in a 4-2-3-1 formation which could make him the perfect fit for Chelsea.

He has an impressive goal scoring record with 30 goals this season so far and has made 10 assists for Die Schwarzgelben over the course of the campaign. He’s widely expected to leave the Westfalenstadion this season, would Chelsea be missing a trick if they don’t at least attempt to sign this man?

What are your thoughts on this rumour, are you impressed by Lewandowski and would you like to see him in a Chelsea shirt? Have your say in the comments section below.

I agree, I’ve said this for a while, as much as I admire Falcao, I think £50m is too much for any player (except Ronaldo and Messi – and even that takes into account their commercial value). I would prefer to see smart buys from Chelsea, as we have a young team that will only get better. Still not convinced we need a CF as we have Lukaku but would rather spend 25m on Lewandowski than 50m on Falcao. Think the need is for a proper holding midfielder (deep lying playmaker), someone who just sits back and keeps it tidy but with the capacity for the quick ball and also able to cover Luiz on his marauding runs. Also a young CB is needed as I think Chalobah and Ake are midfielders and we need someone to replace Terry.

I would rather be paying £24m for a player than £50m…..we did that before & look where/what it got us. If RA pays £50m for Falcao & he doesn’t hit the ground running how many managers will he see off in the process? Torres has cost 4 managers their jobs!

I think he would be a perfect fit if we continued to use out current formation. I think Chelsea should forget about schurle as he has only 9 goals this season which doesn’t justify his £20 pricetag. For only £4 more we can have a proven goal scorer who has done it at the highest level. His hold up and link up play are excellent and crosses put into the box wouldn’t be a complete was as they are with Torres who doesn’t attack them aggressively
