Brazilian legend Pele believes that Chelsea’s newest addition Oscar has the quality to make an immediate impact at the west London club and help fire us to the Premier League title.

The three-time World Cup winner managed to remove his lips from Neymar’s backside for five minutes in order to praise one of Brazil’s other stars during the London 2012 Olympic competition. The Seleção did not manage to win the competition and Oscar himself missed an easy header which would have taken the final to extra-time against Mexico, but he had a brilliant tournament as his side won a silver medal.

When he was asked if Oscar could help the Blues win the title, he replied:

“Of course he can.”

He continued to praise the 20-year-old’s ability whilst remarking that one of his biggest strengths is the fact that he’s a team player:

“Oscar is excellent.

“Neymar is more of an individual, but Oscar is a player who plays for the team.”

Oscar earned the plaudits during his Olympic campaign, the first time many of us have had a proper look at him, by making a few assists, showing off his skill & passing range, and linking up with Neymar to score his only goal of the tournament against Belarus. Following that goal Oscar cheekily said that he hopes he gets used to scoring at Old Trafford, where the game was played, but has also says making goals for his team-mates is what he enjoys most and that could prove vital.

It’s still early days for Roberto Di Matteo’s side as he attempts to blend the new additions with the existing playing staff and there’s a lot of work that needs to be done, but one thing I have noticed during preseason and yesterday’s Community Shield is that we don’t get the ball from back to front quickly enough, so by the time the likes of Eden Hazard or Juan Mata get the ball they’re surrounded and Fernando Torres is isolated.

I’m not sure what plans Di Matteo has for Oscar and I’m sure it will take him some time to settle in, we will of course be patient with the youngster, but I’m wondering if he will be deployed a little deeper than his position for Brazil and provide the sort of service that we had hope Luka Modric would provide when we were chasing him. Only time will tell. One thing is for sure, we have a quality player on our hands.

What are your expectations of Oscar?

I’d like to see us but someone to play the deeper role as I feel Oscar will be key to us in the three behind the St.

  2. Telluride Kiw says:

I agree Joe – our team should look like this:
    Cech
Azpilicueta (when he signs), Cahill, Terry, Cole (or Bertrand)
    Ramires, Romeu
    Hazard, Oscar, Mata
    Torres
Bench 7: Turnbull, Ivanovic, Luiz, Lampard, Marin, Moses (when he signs), Sturridge

    • CFCfan says:

      good one ..
although Marin in my opinion is better then Mata

      • williams says:

U kept mikel and lampard on ur bench, ‘obviously ur bench’ who were supposed to be the best on the deeper role, and U preferd less experienced romeo nd our new asset ahead of those that should be teaching them. Well they are the future chelsea, but for now, they will be coming in from the fringe

Lol, in what way? Boring comment

  3. omosh says:

lets forget big strikers and buy tiotte and modric to increase our pocession of the ball as this will make sturridge and torres top scorers

  4. Heeddy says:

Just giv d boy time 2 prove himself b4 benching d like of lamp, ivanovic, mikel. I will like him 2 play deep 2 improve our 4rm d back.

  9. Vince says:

Mikel was useless in the community shield! He did nothing right at the times he must have..lost the ball constantly, didn’t find his passes, slowed the play down when we needed to be quick, couldn’t break up their play, didn’t protect the back four, one time in particular when we were on the counter attack, Hazard, Mata, Lampard and Torres broke free and made their runs, surrounding their penalty area, 4 against 3, and stupid Mikel passed backwards to Ramires and all their defense came back and opportunity lost! Play Oscar little deeper in the place of Mikel!

    • henry says:

Vince, you blame mikel for killing our match, what will you say about terry that gave yaya toure the ball to score?
