According to today’s reports, Chelsea are in fresh talks with Marseille over Ceser Azpilicueta and will attempt to push through a deal for the Spanish right-back…how many times have we heard this recently?

But the Daily Mirror reckon that the Stamford Bridge club are keen to complete a deal before our Premier League season starts on Sunday against Wigan, so they better get their skates on.

Marseille have already knocked back the Blues’ opening offer of £5m but our representatives had talks with the French club yesterday and their club president has publicly said that Azpilicueta will be allowed to leave for a fair offer. They had a poor campaign last season and finished outside of the European places, so will have to sell some of their assets to reduce their wage bill. Azpilicueta is just one of the players set for a move, along with Stephane Mbia and one of Loic Remy or Andre Ayew.

Branislav Ivanovic won’t serve a ban for the red card he picked up against Manchester City in the Community Shield, so Roberto Di Matteo will have a right-back available for selection against Wigan and Marseille aren’t as in a strong position as they would have been if he was suspended, but the figure will still likely rise above the £6 million mark.

We do desperately need a right-back and after the Maicon deal fell through and the club baulked at Dortmund’s valuation of Lukasz Piszczek, Chelsea will hope to get this deal done as soon as possible. The Mirror also highlighted Juventus’ Switzerland right-back Stephan Lichtsteiner as a fall-back option should the chase for Azpilicueta fail.

  1. Getting a RB now is d most urgent thing but d best option at dis tym is Caesar Azpi, so let Chelsea spend whatever is necessary 2get d guy. We also need an agile n very mobile DMF plus a sharp n aggressive CF 2 spare us a whole season’s disgrace. KTBFFH!

we need him coz ivanovic shld start ahead of terry in central defence, luiz in the midfield. Irrespective of our performance this season, di mateo shld go coz with these tiny players we av chelsea shld hold the ball instead of chasing it. Our performance wil be based on how much we hold the ball.
