Chelsea could be set to offload French midfielder Florent Malouda and recent reports suggest that a move to Brazil could be in the offing with Fluminense and Vasco Da Gama being mooted as potential destinations.

The 32-year-old has one-year left remaining on his current deal and it’s unlikely he’ll sign an extension is Roberto Di Matteo deems him surplus to requirements, so it would make sense to move him on now whilst we can still earn something for him and also remove a significant wage off the bill.

According to reports, Malouda, who has a Brazilian wife, would favour a move to Brazil and France Football have said that he has told his team-mates that he intends to quit Chelsea and join Vasco Da Gama. Should such a deal go through, I’m not sure we would get much in the way of a fee but he could be used to gain a first option on the upcoming players that they possess, much like we did when Deco moved to Fluminense.

Malouda has always been a divisive figure since his arrival from Lyon in the summer of 2007 but he enjoyed two good seasons in 2009/10 (15 goals & 15 assists) and 2010/11 (14 goals & 5 assists). However, he has never been the most popular player amongst the ranks and I doubt he’ll be missed after his abysmal showing last season. I don’t think there would be many that wouldn’t agree that it is his time to leave Chelsea.

Great news. Let it happen. He has done well for us but is past is good, far from his best but he won’t go by self. Let essien, ferreira, hilario follow him. Bring in 2 of those germans scurrie, klose, gotze or martinez, muniain of bilbao, ismailnov of sporting and then we can target 4 of the 7 trophies b4 us this season including defending our euro crown without playing defensive game

I don’t think Malouda is so bad as everyone makes him out to be! I mean what makes him so bad?? He can pass, is versatile, can run, has stamina, can shoot and score goals, take set plays etc. But all of this can only happen if he is on the pitch..and sadly he hasn’t got all the chances he would have liked, and now since people hasn’t seen him much recently…they say he is crap. He is the one player I have never had a problem playing. Don’t get me wrong..I’m not saying he is the best player..but I will surely miss him!

I would miss Malouda too if he leave. I’d had his good time at Chelsea but I think it’s time to leave. His driblling, passing, speed, stamina and shooting accuracy all are getting worse and become an average player. Watch him play for France recently? After flashy one-touch passing around come to Malouda’s feet from his national teammate, he stopped the play and turned the ball around and lose the possesion or shooting the ball out wide. Those also happened when he play for Chelsea. What Chelsea want to challenge for every title is not Player of enert Malouda type now. He should leave for good now and let the oppurtunity open for younger players.
