Bolton and England defender Gary Cahill has voiced his frustration at the team following their poor start to the season.
Cahill, whose contract expires at the end of the year, expressed his feelings following their woeful performance against Sunderland. Bolton have only won two games and currently find themselves in the bottom three. The 25-year-old England International said: ‘A few of the lads, myself included, need to have a look and question themselves over whether they are doing enough,’ said Cahill.
“You can maybe afford to carry one player but you cannot afford to carry a handful and it has been different players in different games.
“When you are under pressure, there is only so much you can head out and defend.
“It is difficult because I was out there (against Sunderland) thinking, “Why are we under so much pressure?” We were defending all the time. We have to sort it out.”
Cahill’s outburst would have only escalated speculation that the defender could well leave this January alerting the likes of Tottenham, Arsenal and Chelsea to come back in for the England defender. Both Spurs and Arsenal had bids rejected during the summer, and will be hoping Bolton will want to cash in come January before losing him on a free at the end of the year.
The three clubs have looked vulnerable at the back on occasions this season and the England International will be a great acquisition to which ever club secures his services.
