Chelsea chairman Bruce Buck hopes that Andre Villas-Boas can emulate the likes of Sir Alex Ferguson and Arsene Wenger by remaining Chelsea manager for the next 10-15 years and having a long legacy at the Stamford Bridge club.

The Blues have been heavily criticised for their revolving door policy and have had seven managers since the arrival of Roman Abramovich in 2003. Many fans are hoping that in Villas-Boas they finally have a long term option.

Bruce Buck hailed the young manager for his start in west London:

“He is only 33 but he has already had success.”

He added:

“In the past we have gone for experienced, successful managers, now we have one who is young and also successful and we hope he will have a lot more success at Chelsea.

“The right man could be in the job for 10 or 15 years and, in light of Andre’s age, he may be that guy. People questioned how a manager of 33 could manage a player of 31 and let me tell you he does it very well and there are no problems there at all.”

The Chelsea chairman hopes that he can be as long-lasting as Ferguson has been at Manchester United and Arsene Wenger at Arsenal:

“Those clubs have enjoyed great longevity with their managers but it shouldn’t just be longevity for longevity’s sake.”

Do you think Andre Villas-Boas is the right man to have a long and successful era at Stamford Bridge?

I think AVB is the right man. And I hope he will enjoy a long and successful career as Chelsea manager. He needs time to win EPL, Champions League. It may not happen this season. We need patience. The only thing is that he needs to resolve pribkems in the defense – I think Chelsea is the most vulnerable team in EPL when it comes to defending set pieces. We also need a midfielder of the likes od Sneijder. And another striker – Neymar. We need to get rid of Kalou. And give Lukaku much more time on the first team. This is how I see it
