Newly rich Paris St Germain are pursuing Chelsea striker Didier Drogba as they continue to peruse the market for top players. Drogba finds himself cast aside at Chelsea with new boss Andre Villas-Boas seemingly preferring to allow Fernando Torres the time to regain his form.

PSG find themselves in fourth place in Ligue 1, after an underwhelming start to the season, though a run of eight games unbeaten in all competitions has renewed fans’ optimism. If PSG can secure Drogba’s signature, it would represent a major coup as Drogba is still held in great esteem by league rivals Marseille, who recently failed in a bid for their former star.

Though Argentine playmaker Javier Pastore is finally starting to make PSG tick, most fans are hoping for significant investment come the January window, with a strike partner for new signing Kevin Gameiro top of the wishlist.

Reports in France and Italy are already claiming that negotiations have begun, but it is likely these are wide of the mark.

Aged 33 now, Drogba will view his diminished role at Chelsea as worrying. Not content with being a substitute, albeit in a squad rotation system, the Ivory Coast international will surely see a big-money return to the country where he spent most of his early life as a very interesting proposition.
