The Luka Modric saga continues to drag on and many believe it will continue to up until transfer deadline day despite Harry Redknapp’s insistence that the matter is finished and the Croatian will remain a Tottenham star.

It would seem that Redknapp has written off Modric mentally as he admitted that the player’s head has been turned and he’ll likely spend the season watching Chelsea in the Champions League and competing for honours this season, whilst thinking that he should be part of it.

But ‘Arry also says that he doesn’t want the player to go and backs Daniel Levy into a corner by constantly reminding us that the Spurs chairman has said that the player is not for sale, a statement that Levy will not want to back down on.

That’s not to say that Chelsea will give up their pursuit of Modric and there has been rumours of a £40m bid about to go in for him, which is £5m-10m too much in my opinion.

Villas-Boas was asked about Modric and said:

“I cannot extend myself a lot on this player. His qualities are visible. He is Harry Redknapp’s player, not my player unfortunately.”

When asked if he had given up the chase for Modric or a new midfielder, Villas-Boas said:

“No. I just have to continue to assess the market. You know that I’ve spoken and made it public that we might need to add to midfield. We are short in midfield in terms of numbers. I am not going to wait for a specific player until 31 August. I will bring somebody in.

“It gets pretty frenetic in the last week of the market. That is the reality. Even this week, one of the biggest deals in the Premier League was done with Nasri leaving Arsenal for Man City.

“Let’s see how the market goes. It will be good for the managers when it closes on August 31.”

I agree with AVB. We definitely need a new midfielder especially as we’re currently wasting the talents of Fernando Torres, who keeps having to drop deep just to get a foot on the ball because the likes of Frank Lampard seem blind to his movement or simply lacking the guile to pick out the right pass.

Chelsea sprung something of a surprise by bringing in Juan Mata, who was heavily linked with a move to London rivals Arsenal earlier in the summer. I think Villas-Boas has a list of midfielders in his mind that we could bring in if we cannot get Modric, so could there be more surprises in store?

Joao Moutinho is just one midfielder that has been mooted as a potential alternative to Modric and many of the Stamford Bridge faithful believe that Josh McEachran is good enough to play more of a part in the first team, which midfielder would you like to see arrive at Chelsea before the transfer deadline?

It’s only rumbling on on sites like this. Levy said the matter was closed weeks ago and it was.

  2. Modric is indeed a player we need most but obviously we cant be happy with the mixtures of goings. Let be keen on our plan B en use the correct cards.

The Modric saga drags on only in your head. Modric had a meeting with Levy on Thursday and is definately staying. Levy was never going to sell him. Leave it. Leave it.

We can’t be sure till the time MODRIC say this in public .. he has not been playing for spurs in european matches (spurs claims beacuse of injury)..guess he does not wants to be club tied .. Modric made it public he wants to leave .. he should publically confirm now that he is not .. this is so identical to berbatov ..

  4. Chelsea should go for Riccardo Montolivo is leaving Fiorentina for Abroad and chelsea should act faster as Luka Modric Alternative..

Saga? What saga, he’s never been for sale, do you not recall “we will not negotiate at any price?”

Sorry but your blatant tapping up, your newspaper campaign and trying to get him to force a move on the cheap show your club for what it is, the lowest of the low lacking in any class.

You Spurs fans have gotten VERY one eyed lately. None of you seem to understand what “tapping up” means either! Surely this is just the same as when Spurs buy a player from any side with less cash than they have that wasn’t listed for transfer or was important to their existing club, no? Just because a chairman says “not for sale”, also, rarely, if ever, means what it sounds like. Aulas said the same about Essien when he just wanted more wonga and though Levy could well be telling the truth just how would Chelsea as the buying club ever KNOW?

When Real wanted Robben his dad had the move in the press way before Real spoke to Chelsea but we let the player go rather than have an unhappy squad member swaying the larger group dynamic. It’s the same here as Chelsea, as a buyer, just don’t want this in the papers and never did-certainly not after the first bid anyway. Secondly, it’s bee Harry keeping this going in the papers more than ANYONE. He’s the one who’s invented the “tripled wages” and so on and spoke nonsense about Mata too-he’s ALWAYS saying way more than he needs to about Modric’s situation as well and patronising everyone into the bargain. AVB, thankfully, has been very brief when asked about LM and even attempted to quash more talk.

I also found it odd that Levy felt the bizarre need to let the press know he’d contacted Chelsea to demand they not make another bid. Why do that, for a start, and why tell the papers if you did do it? Seriously, if the aim wasn’t more column inches why say anything? Why not just ignore the issue when/if another bid comes in as he’d already made his position plainly clear and all this served was to heighten press interest in his meeting with LM.Same with Harry’s contradictory “he should stay” and “he should go” rants about the state of Luka’s head! It’s really NOT been Chelsea keeping this one on the back pages all the sodding time and, honestly, LM’s way over [priced now anyway ands with just as good players available for less I fail to see why Chelsea are still involved.

please go for Sneider. He’s strong, agile, powerful. Has a good vision for goals with accurate passes. What else? Forget about softy modric

  8. collins says:

moutinho, sneijder, merieles and hazard are all good alternative for modric instead of waste time. Lets not forget that time is running out.

Our friends of spurs are barking too much over here. It seems that not only Harry and Levy who feel the heat but also the fans.
If I were Levy I would sell Modric no matter what. Keeping Modric by force is killing the whole team moral and creation of the state of dictatorship btwn management and the players. some players will support Modric.
I hope Levy is not taking this as personal matter.
Sometimes we have to hide our pride

yes,it looks as modric will be in a spurs jersey next year, anyway.however spuds fans saying he’s not for sale are deluded leavy would have drove him to do the deal if the taught he would get in excess of 35m,why? because its good buisness.anyways always taught modric was a good player but i think hamsick is way better even ganso would fit in way better than modric,so maybe we go for ganso and hazars and play 4-2-3-1
