After having a relatively poor season and the January arrival of Fernando Torres, the debate of whether Didier Drogba should stay or be moved on has dragged along over the past few months.

Most fans didn’t seem to like the idea of involving him in a swap deal for Tottenham’s Luka Modric, or for him to go to any other Premier League club for that matter.

But the veteran Ivorian has also been linked to a number of clubs abroad over the past six months or so, including Marseille, Galatasaray, Real Madrid and Malaga are now showing an interest in Drogba, according to recent reports.

The La Liga side are owned by Sheikh Abdullah ben Nasser Al Thani, a member of Qatar’s ruling family and isn’t short of cash to spend, so would probably be able to meet the club’s valuation of the player and meet his wage demands. Manuel Pellegrini is keen to bolster the squad and has already opted for experience after signing Ruud van Nistelrooy and Jeremy Toulalan recently.

A lot will depend on what Chelsea and the player want, but essentially, if Drogba isn’t willing to accept that he may be something of a backup player next season then it may be better for all concerned if there is a parting of the ways, especially if we sign Romelu Lukaku because we’ll then have several forwards jostling for the centre forward’s role, as I doubt we’ll be lining up 4-4-2 next season.

I hate to see Drogba go. We need someone of his stature to lead our attack. Lukaku need time to settle in just like Torres.

drogba should leave now he is 33 time now to have younger players up front ie sturridge lukaku if we sign him also torres will be a better player for us if drogba moves on

Drogba is a Chelsea legend. I would hate to see him at another Prem club. If he does leave I hope it is to Milan or Real where he can end his career on a high note.
From all the reports and player/pundit analysis I’ve come accross on Lukaku, it seems his style is not like Drogbas.
We need someone to bully defenders the way he does.
They will need to mould him into that type of player – thouth with lukaku being so young there is plenty of time for that

  5. Drogba shld go but not to malaga mmm y not millan/madrid/galatasary to play in Uefa Cl so that torres, daniel, & incoming lukaku wl shine.ktbffh

DD should cos the devil you know is better than the angel you dont know as chelsae style of football takes time to be adapted to be you a top player or lionel messi so he shud stay while others warch him for the now may be till january transfer when others might have learn very well and see if torres is now fit for replacement or any other

Happy for the legend that DD is for him to stay but if he had to go, fair due as long as not prem lg. We must accommodate Sturridge, his form and ability scream for justice as first team. If we do get some of these suggested striker signings, as said before we’ll need to jiggle; Sturridge comes back to replace: Anelka or Kalou if they go and 1 new signing to replace the other then fine; say Sturridge/Drogba/Torres + 1 signing. If we want to accommodate 2 new striker signings then we must consider letting Drogs go. We can’t keep more than 4 top notch marksmen happy. Cuppa yeah

it’s hightime chelsea should learn how to keep senior players,I’ve been saying dis times without number that drogba should stay because we need him even more than we need lampard.new strikers will learn from him, drogba can still give us good 3 season.

    • Anthony Williams says:

Disagree, it’s hightime they learn when to let players go. The clubs with the most consistent success master this, so should we.

I don’t think anybody has a problem with players staying for the love of the club, but they’ll have to start taking a lot less for it.

£130,000-a-week in wages is far too much for a non-starter.
