According to the Mirror, Chelsea could be set for a clear-out this summer as Andre Villas-Boas prepares his squad for the 2011-12 season, with several players linked with the exit door.

Those at the Mirror believe that Frank Lampard (£5m), Didier Drogba (£10m), Nicolas Anelka (£5m), Florent Malouda (£10m), Michael Essien (£10m), Salomon Kalou (£15m) and Jon Obi Mikel (£15m) are all at risk of being shown the door. – That’s £70m worth of players. I think we could do with a degree of an overhaul, but it seems a little unlikely and drastic.

I couldn’t imagine Lampard going anywhere, for instance. Although I think he should perhaps be used more sparingly, he still has something to offer. Also, his wages are fairly high and he’ll likely retire at the club.

I could only see Chelsea parting with Michael Essien, if they don’t think they could rely on his fitness or are offered a substantial fee for him, £10m is nowhere near enough for the Bison. I don’t think we have any plans on selling Mikel either and believe he’s probably the best defensive midfielder we have as he’s comfortable on the ball and economic with it, even if his defending is a little suspect.

Nicolas Anelka is already a bit-part player and would have no problem taking a lesser role, so may just run down the final year of his deal. Similarly, if he stays, Malouda could become more of a ‘squad player’ next season, but obviously either could leave for a decent enough offer, but I doubt Anelka is in demand.

Kalou’s words in the press over the past few months have been irritating, but not quite as frustrating as his sporadic form – I’d sell him and would hope to see Daniel Sturridge afforded more chances in his place.

And then there’s Drogba, who knows what’s happening with him? He has been constantly linked with the exit door despite Gourlay saying that the Ivorian will stay, but we have been heavily linked with Radamel Falcao and if the Porto striker arrives, it could be the end of Drogba’s time at the club. At a push, he may have accepted that he’d have to fight for a starting XI place with Fernando Torres or even be his backup, but if he was to become third choice he’ll walk.

Which players do you think we will see going in/out of the club this summer?

Am in support of Drogba and Lampard’s stay at Chelsea b/c d younger once need someone to learn 4rm. To me no one is above d club if they choose to go, so be it. They were there for d past 7years they could not deliver d Champions league, so lets try some other players that are hungry 4 Champions League.

I don’t believe players need a ‘mentor’ the man that is guiding them is the coach, sure they can learn things from other players, but the coaching and playing time are the primary way of progression…everything else is secondary and probably not necessary

Y any ain’t talkin abt a gud back 4 cech. 4 me i’d lyk 2 c dis players out. Anelka, malouda, kalou, zhrkov, bosingwa, hilario n tunbull. Promotin d lyks of ryan betrand since anholt is on loan. Den buy falcao, modric, van der wiel, mata or anoda gud winger

I think chelsea should sell almost six players, like drogba, anelka, malouda, ferriera, bosingwa, zhirkov, then we should buy modric, lukaku, neymar, vanderweil, chelsea should try and buy young players thanks

  4. Hmm i would like 2 see lampard and drogba stay so as to add experience to the chelsea team says:

    Zikov,bosingwa,malouda should leave.

Some of you lot have got your head up your asses and I dont know what you have been watching last season, you sure you were not watch chancer the tv series and have it confused with Chelsea the FC?

If you look back at last seasons performances and you look at the stats… Mikel should defo stay…

I mean the papers point to Bison injury as our drop in form…

But the truth is that our bad run of form started when mikel became injured, Take a look at the stats when Mikel was absent from the team… Mikel compliment Bison and allows Bison to play tremendous football as he feels more relaxed knowing mikel is covering him.

we need to keep mikel as I believe once he has hit 28 he will be the one of the best midfielders in the word if not the best.. and with AVB style of managment, he will make him even better.

door should go to Nic, malu (who really annoyed me last season, with me shouting in some games ref send him off will do better without him and with 10 men…

I mean there was one game last season were he touched the ball once in 15 minutes…. doh…. we defo dont need that type of player at the bridge.

malu, Kal and nic are my choice for the door tbh…

I dont think AVB will sell bots as like jose, he will get the best out of him…

and I think everyone forgets Drogbs was very ill last season and had I really bad strain of milleria, which would have stopped 100% of footballers from playing, be he still fought through it and played for the cause… why 99,9% of overs would of stayed at home… he is amazing to be honest and should be allowed to stay…

As for Falco, if that deal is going through dont hold hopes up for neymar, great prospect but 40m come of it..

I think we should just say to barca, look you can have luiz and we will give you the 50m so you can sign fab from arsenal, but we want messi 😛 72m total outlay for him… sounds ok to me.

Statistics will tell you that Malouda was the best
player in the Premieship last season, creating a chance every 24 mins. Why would you want to get rid
of the best player.Lampard is a Rolls Royce among
players. The best goal scoring midfielder ever in the
league. He will be the same next season if hes fully fit.Ivanovic on the other hand had a terrible season. He gives 100% but was found out in lots of matches and lucky not to be sent off several times.
He will never make a full back and to play him there is embarrasing. He attacks down the right
crosses the ball and takes about a week to get back.

I think some of chelsea fans are crazy…… They open door to drogba, essien and mikel…. Guys mikel is very young and he will improve more when he will get enough chances,Drogba is power house, talented, skilled etc any team experienced players like him they needed, Essien is the best defensive midfield in the world….. May B if u gonna cover the gap in defensive midfield if mikel and essien will go….

These comments are hilarious. You boys need to lay off the football manager and join the real world. Do you really think:

    1. You’ll be able to sell half of those players? Their wages are obscene. The older guys aren’t worth much anymore and besides, no one could afford them.

    2. You’ll buy neymar + modric + sneijder + sanchez + eto’o + aguero + falcao + hulk? Are you a football team or a circus? Under a new manager I expect chelsea to be very solid next season. The key players you have built success on have been Cech, Terry, Lampard and Drogba; if you can replace just these 4 with guys anywhere near as good, you’ll still be a top club and in with a chance of all silverware.

But seriously, lay off the football manager and do your homework boys.
