Steven Taylor’s late goal against Chelsea stole a point for Newcastle United at Stamford Bridge today, but the 2-2 draw ended up being enough for the former champions to clinch second place after Arsenal lost 2-1 against Aston Villa in front of their empty seats at the Emirates Stadium.

The Blues took an early lead after Fernando Torres flicked on a Frank Lampard corner, and Branislav Ivanovic applied the finishing touch.

But the lead was short lived, Alex gave away a free-kick outside the box and Ryan Taylor’s shot deflected off Jonas Guierrez and into Petr Cech’s net.

The Brazilian did redeem himself late in the second half when he headed home Lampard’s free-kick, for what was thought to be the winner, until Steven Taylor took advantage of some sloppy defending in injury time and take a point for the Magpies.

But what did we learn from today’s game?

Whether Carlo Ancelotti is at Chelsea next season or not, his team selection may have had the next campaign in mind as Torres led the attack and Josh McEachran was handed a Premier League start.

Last week we saw Nemanja Vidic score a free header against us and sloppy defending cost us once again today for Newcastle’s equaliser. Lapses in concentration have become a worryingly regular occurrence this season.

It’s believed that today was a farewell to Stamford Bridge from Ancelotti, but it could be for a few of the players too and we are set for an interesting summer ahead.

“Stole” is a bit harsh, I thought we more than held out own against you lot today, and even bossed large parts of the game. Quite an achievement considering we’ve got practically a team’s worth of players out injured!

Anyways, good luck for next season, hope we do as well against you lot next time round ; )

Far be it for me to criticise you Chelski fans but I would ask :

“If you get rid of Ancelotti, who is there to take his place ?”

I dont think Jose is ready to leave the Bernabeu just yet and the red scousers kept saying they would take Dalglish back after Hodgson but who have you got to take over the reins that would be any better than Carlo ?

I’m sure there are problems at the Bridge but I’m not sure its all Ancelotti’s fault ? Maybe a certain meddling Russian has contributed to the turmoil this season ?

When Chelsea were winning back to back titles with Jose Mourinho, Man United were undertaking a rebuild of their squad and it got them 3 Premiership titles and a Champions League. Now we need to do the same thing with out squad. Remove the deadwood, freshen it up and build a younger hungrier team ready to go and fight for every point and trophy available.

    KTBFFH!!!

We need to rebuild our team. Drogba lampard shud pave way fr josh n sturrige, Then malouda kalou anelka bosingwa shud go,,,,,gooooooooo, we need a young hungry team, with alot of pace,

  6. sammie says:

pace is what we lack today.the technic was there but we lacked purpose and drive.drogba, malouda, anelka, ferriera, bosingwa and mikel should all go.Frank Lampard must accept a bench role and play second fiddle from next season to whoever his replacement might be.carlo is a good coach but he’d better of somewhere in italy not england where managers play more technical role than gamble.bring in villas boas or vanbasten.

I think Newcastle deserved a draw today and ‘stole’ is really harsh. Especially as your second goal was a terrible error from our rookie keeper who should have stayed on his line. Two draws against us this season, thats why your not worthy of being champions. And we are still building from being in the championship.

  8. tom says:

tsunami are you honestly going to discredit one of chelsea’s goals after that fluke first goal for newcastle?

    • Porciestreet says:

All goals are good goals. If we start griping about the quality of each goal then it smacks of sour grapes. I think the geordies point was correct in that we,ve played Newcastle twice at home this season, and got very little from both games against what would appear to be a lot of reserve players. Time to wake up and smell the coffee.

chelsea really need to think a bit more long (or at least mid)-term. It seems like every marquee signing is designed to guarantee instant success, which isn’t working. You would do well to re-build over the course of a couple of seasons under Ancelotti -Sturridge needs to be recalled, as one e.g. even though he’s not your typical ‘glamour’ Chelsea player. If not, please could you sell him to newcastle.

Good luck anyway! Hope you get the title back off the manure tw@ts.

Chelsea against Newcastle was just a deadwood of a match. Chelsea just wanted to cement second place and at Arsenal’s expense they did just that. There are a lot worries though,Torres started well but went to sleep when the supplies got cut off.Chelsea players should keep him engaged always to keep him from napping.

Everybody talks about chelsea’s problems and some feel it is Ancelotti,Some feel its some tuff Russian love. There are old legs at chelsea which needs replacement but not a wholesale replacement though. Chelsea’s main fault was inability to play 4-4-2 effectively,Chelsea doesnt have those flying wingers who bomb the box with crosses after crosses like Valencia or Nani.

I dont know how many of you think the same but when Chelsea decides to clear-out Drogba,Anelka,Malouda and Kalou they are kicking the entire forward line out of the door. It doesnt work that way.Push the dead wood out in the form of Malouda and Anelka from the front,Essien and Zhirkov from the middle and Bosingwa from the back.

Bringing in re-inforcements is not an easy task as most of them wud need considerable amount of time to gel in with the squad unless the player has great abilities within him. Aguero is great on the ball, good piece of trickery, young and fast. Left side should be just fine if chelsea brings in a 7-10 million player who knows the premier league, Nzogbia is a perfect fit for it.Sturridge can play on either side as well.
    *Possible ins – Aguero,Nzogbia,Lukaku,Mario Gomez,Juan Mata.

Chelsea has one good young player ready to step up to play the anchor role and its Mceachran, He can deliver that killer through ball anytime he wants which is something totally forgotten of sorts at Chelsea. Chelsea definitely need that creative spark at the middle of the park where Kaka comes into play(only if he comes at price less than the 30 million Madrid is asking).James McCarthy from wigan could be another fine acquisition. Imagine Charlie adam in blue, a wicked dream of sorts.
    *Possible ins- Kaka,Sneijder,Pirlo(free agent),Pastore(unlikely)

Chelsea need one good right back who is young and full of energy. David luiz can fill that space at times so a better than average player will be perfectly all right. Sergio Ramos aint coming to the bridge so no brownie points for that.
*possible in – Van der wiel or Subotic(who can play on right, left or thru the middle)
