Chelsea are reportedly tracking Athletic Bilbao’s £18 million-rate midfield star Javier Martinez.

Martinez singed for Los Leones as a 17-year-old in 2006, but quickly became a first team regular and has already played over 150 games for the Basque club. He already has plenty of experience in top flight football for a player who is still so young at 22, and was part of Spain’s 2010 World Cup winning squad.

The midfielder has previously been described as the ‘new Xabi Alonso’, could he provide a much needed creative spark into the Chelsea midfield?

Bilbao would be reluctant to let go of one of their prized assets, but £18m may be enough to secure his services, according to Sportingo

What a goal. always knew him to be a top quality player

  2. Instead of him why not well known player?

We hardly knew anything about our defender Branislav Ivanovic, but he’s a great player for Chelsea. So this Martinez guy might actually be a bargain at £18m and at the age of 22

good goal…sadly he isn’t actually that good all the time. chelsea could do a lot better.
