Chelsea co-owner Todd Boehly is keen on making Paris Saint-Germain star Kylian Mbappe a marquee signing at Chelsea.

What’s the word?

That is according to journalist Pete O’Rourke who has informed GIVEMESPORT of his understanding regarding the club’s stance on the want-away star.

O’Rourke believes that Chelsea are firmly in the running to sign Mbappe, and feels as though Boehly is desperate to “stamp his mark on the club.”

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, O’Rourke said: “I think Chelsea will be one of those clubs who will be linked with Mbappe.

“I’m sure Todd Boehly would love to make such a marquee signing as Mbappe just to really stamp his mark on the club.”

A true statement

Prising French football’s golden-boy Mbappe from the clutches of the French capital would perhaps be the biggest stamp of authority and respective footballing statement that Boehly could manage at this current moment.

The 23-year-old is a genuine world-beater and was by far and away PSG’s brightest spark last season, outshining the likes of Lionel Messi and Neymar Jr, who could not come close to his numbers, in fairness.

Mbappe managed 28 goals in Ligue 1 last season with Neymar his closest threat with 13 goals and Messi faltering in his first season at the club with six goals.

But what makes the France international so different is his ability to shine as a creator also, having managed 17 assists in what is once again a squad-topping metric.

It is this aspect that Graham Potter would adore the most.

In a strange comparison that I never thought I’d be making, Potter’s system, especially in the latter stages at Brighton made use of a creative forward in Danny Welbeck who was used in such a way to create both direct and creative threat in front of goal.

You get the impression that Mbappe would shine as a somewhat floating forward like this with the star clearly astute in both aspects of the forward role.

Either way, there is no doubt that this signing would send shudders down the spine of the Premier League in what would be a similar sensation to the one caused by Erling Haaland’s arrival.
