RB Leipzig defender Josko Gvardiol is still ranked highly on Chelsea’s transfer list.

What’s the word?

That is according to Pete O’Rourke, who has informed GIVEMESPORT of Chelsea’s interest in the Croatian starlet, with the journalist believing that the pursuit of Christopher Nkunku could help the side in their negotiations.

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, O’Rourke said: “It helps that the two clubs are negotiating over Nkunku.

“I’m sure Gvardiol has come up in conversations, and he is a long-term target for Chelsea. They tried to sign him in the summer transfer window, so I’m sure he remains pretty high on their list as well right now.”

A raid on RB Leipzig

With Chelsea looking as though they have sealed a deal to sign Nkunku, O’Rourke believes that the move puts them in good stead to strike a move for 20-year-old Gvardiol, in what would make for a blistering raid of the Red Bull outfit.

RB Leipzig have struggled this season, which has already seen the side make a managerial change, sacking Dominic Tedesco for Marco Rose. But it has not affected Gvardiol in the slightest.

The young Croatian has asserted himself as an astute and progressive ball playing defender, averaging 79.4 accurate passes and 5.7 accurate long balls per 90.

Given his age, potential and current outstanding ability, the Croatia international fits into Boehly’s “top talents strategy”, which was the theme of a summer window and saw the American make a move for the £77million man.

It remains to be seen as to whether the Croat will make the switch to Stamford Bridge in the January transfer window, but with Chelsea’s recent progress on Nkunku, a double deal for the star duo would present huge value for the Blues who are keen to show their ambition under the new ownership.
