Chelsea target Christopher Nkunku is now “very close” to joining the Stamford Bridge outfit.

What’s the word?

That is according to Sky Sports reporter Dharmesh Sheth who has informed GIVEMESPORT of Chelsea’s current standing in the club’s attempts to sign the RB Leipzig star.

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, Sheth said:

“Nkunku looks like it’s getting very, very close. I’m told that nothing has been signed yet. There’s been no pre-contract. He’s still got a contract until 2026, but significantly, there is a €60m release clause which kicks in in the summer of 2023.”

Champions League Phenom

The fact that this deal is now considered “very, very close” is majorly promising for Chelsea, who will be bagging themselves a Champions League phenom in Nkunku, with the France international scoring seven goals and assisting on two occasions from six UCL appearances last season.

The 24-year-old has quickly become one of Europe’s brightest prospects over the last two seasons.

He’s gone from a steady attacking asset to a ferocious and roaring prospect.

The 2021/22 campaign saw the former Paris Saint-Germain gem help himself to a whopping 33 goal contributions in the form of 20 goals and 13 assists in just 34 Bundesliga games.

That emphatic return is demonstrative of his attacking nous and also is rapid development into one of Europe’s elite, because the previous season saw him get six goals and six assists from 28 Bundesliga appearances.

He has brought that form from last season into the new campaign, having scored six goals in eight appearances so far for an RB Leipzig side who have stuttered so far this season, his ability to get goals is clearly not hindered by the team’s situation.

There is no doubt that Nkunku will bolster Potter’s squad, with his ability to get involved in the build-up an attribute that will please the Chelsea boss, with the star having averaged 28.56 passes completed per 90 over the last calendar year.
