Chelsea are eager to tie Thiago Silva down to a new contract, with the Brazilian reportedly open to remaining in west London.

That is according to journalist Simon Phillips, who has said that the Brazil veteran is set to make a final decision as to whether he wants to extend his stay at Stamford Bridge.

What’s the word?

Phillips believes that the 38-year-old is enjoying his time in a Blues shirt, with fresh contract talks potentially in the offing amid the player’s wife recently declaring that the family are enjoying life in west London.

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, Phillips said: “He is yet to decide, but the decision will be made soon.

“He’s certainly open to staying and Chelsea are pretty keen to keep him for another season. But there’s lots to consider here for all parties. Silva is absolutely loving his time at Chelsea.”

Loving his time at Chelsea

Amidst the latest update from Phillips, Chelsea fans must be hopeful of the club extending Silva’s time at Stamford Bridge, with his current deal expiring next June.

The Brazilian has asserted himself as a rock in the Blues’ backline, with his contributions perhaps surprising those who would not have been able to envisage a 38-year-old defender adapting to the Premier League in the rapid nature that he has.

Ranked by Fotmob as Chelsea’s joint-best player so far this season, the centre-back has demonstrated his progressive nature once again in the current campaign and has two assists to show for his eight Premier League appearances this term.

This is just the tip of his creative output as a centre-back, with Silva averaging a squad-topping 6.1 accurate passes per 90 and also demonstrating the stability that he brings to the team in the possession phase, with his average of 74.9 accurate passes per 90.

Defensively speaking, he is arguably Chelsea’s best asset, topping the squad rankings for both clearances and blocks per 90.

It was not long ago that the former Paris Saint-Germain captain said that he wants to play until he is 40, so Chelsea should do everything they can to keep him in SW6, especially if he and his family are happy there.
