Chelsea target Josko Gvardiol is refusing to rule out options as we approach the winter transfer window.

What’s the word?

That is according to Fabrizio Romano, who relayed the RB Leipzig defender’s comments after his side rejected a bid from Chelsea in the latter stages of the summer transfer window just gone.

Relaying Gvardiol’s admission via his personal Twitter page, Romano said:“Josko Gvardiol on Chelsea bid turned down by Leipzig: ‘I didn’t think too much about that negotiation. It’s only my second year, I’ve to learn – I’m happy in Leipzig.'”

“Chelsea could return with new bid in January: ‘We’ll see what happens in the winter’, Gvardiol says.”

An intriguing admission

Despite turning out for an underperforming Leipzig side this season, Gvardiol has asserted himself as the club’s greatest ball-playing asset across the first seven games so far, averaging 67.5 accurate passes and 5.4 accurate long balls per 90.

The starlet also tops the charts for his average of 1.1 blocks per 90, in what is another chart-topping stat amongst the Leipzig squad.

So, of course, the latest update from Romano will intrigue Boehly, who saw a bid for the 20-year-old rejected in the summer.

The interest will of course still exist, with the Croatia international fitting into Boehly’s “top talents strategy”, given his age, potential and current outstanding ability.

And with Gvardiol’s subtle hint in response to a future Chelsea bid, it seems as though this is a move that makes sense to the former Dinamo Zagreb-man.

It remains to be seen as to whether the Croat will make the switch to Stamford Bridge in the January transfer window, but based on the latest update surrounding the situation, it appears that things are heading in the right direction.
