Chelsea have made contact with Brighton and Hove Albion manager Graham Potter, amidst their managerial vacancy.
What’s the word?
That is according to the ever-reliable Fabrizio Romano, who took to Twitter to issue an update on the fast-developing scenario.
Taking to his personal Twitter page, Romano said:
“Contacts ongoing between Chelsea and Brighton for Graham Potter, as he’s the priority option — Mauricio Pochettino has been proposed to Todd Boehly as available option in the four-names list.
“Talks ongoing — Boehly, on it.”
Boehly, on it.
The sacking of Thomas Tuchel was unexpected and happened quickly.
And by the looks of it, the appointment of a new boss will develop at a similar rate, with Boehly clearly on it.
As per a report by David Ornstein of The Athletic, it is said that Chelsea are hoping to appoint a new coach quickly, before their next game against Fulham on Saturday.
And Brighton’s Potter could well be the man to takeover the Chelsea tiller.
Potter’s Brighton are firing on all cylinders this season and it’s fair to say that the signs have always been there.
The English coach is one of the most tactically astute figures in the current footballing landscape, with his innovative 3-5-1-1 formation resulting in a fourth place league ranking for the Seagulls with six games played.
Whilst Tuchel showed major struggle in getting his side to create chances, Potter has asserted himself as a chance creation expert.
The Brighton boss, who has watched the Seagulls create 12 big chances so far this season, sees his side rank as the fourth most creative side in the Premier League, just ahead of Liverpool.
And chance creation has been a consistent strong point for the boss, who has found himself in a two-year-long xG nightmare, as we are all aware of.
Chelsea are the joint-ninth lowest side when it comes to big chances created this season, having conjured up eight big chances.
