Graham Potter is already a “big admirer” of Mason Mount

Recently-appointed Chelsea manager Graham Potter is already a “big admirer” of England international Mason Mount.
That is according to journalist Dean Jones, who claimed that he would not be surprised to see the 23-year-old being offered a new and improved contract at Stamford Bridge.
What’s the word?
Jones has stated that Potter is a big fan of Mount and would expect to see a fresh deal being presented to the Cobham graduate, whose current £88,000-a-week will expire in 2024.
Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, he said: “Graham Potter, I’m told, is a big admirer of his. I wouldn’t be surprised at all if Mason Mount was set to get a new contract.”
Potter’s prestigious player
Jones’ claim hints at a positive future between Potter and Mount, with the 23-year-old slowly garnering a massively positive reputation on and off the pitch.
Earlier this year, the England international was touted to become captain of the club in the next few seasons by none other than John Terry, one of the finest holders of the armband that Stamford Bridge has ever seen.
Chelsea’s number 19 has already made an impressive 168 appearances for the club in a period which has seen him work under three different managers in Frank Lampard, Thomas Tuchel and now Graham Potter.
The constant between Mount and those bosses is that he was a regular feature under both of Potter’s predecessors while also playing the full 90 minutes in the latter’s first game in charge, and that is without mentioning his positive relationship with England manager Gareth Southgate, who has afforded him 31 senior appearances so far for his country.
Having shown big improvement in his attacking returns last season, chipping in with 11 goals and ten assists in 31 Premier League appearances for Chelsea (almost twice as many goal involvements as 2020/21), there still seems some untapped potential within the 23-year-old. That must be music to the ears of Potter, who will no doubt appreciate Mount as a player and a potential on-field leader.
