Having had a £40million bid turned down by Everton, Chelsea are preparing to go back in with an offer including players in order to sweeten the deal for the Toffees.

What’s the word?

That is according to super-journalist Fabrizio Romano, who has provided an update on the Gordon-Chelsea debacle in his exclusive column.

Giving an update on the situation, Romano said:

“The £40m opening bid for Anthony Gordon has been turned down by Everton. Chelsea are internally discussing a new proposal including players, as Everton are interested in Conor Gallagher and more Chelsea players.

“As I recently wrote, Gallagher was a target for Everton earlier this summer, but his preference is to stay at Chelsea, so it won’t be easy for him to move in this transfer window.

“Newcastle have also had an interest in Gordon, but so far, no new offers have come from the Magpies – and it’s important to say that Frank Lampard still hopes to keep Gordon.”

Boehly will be buzzing

Amidst Romano’s latest update, Todd Boehly will be buzzing with the report that Everton have interest in some of Chelsea’s assets.

Whilst it is difficult to imagine Conor Gallagher being included in a deal for Gordon, with the Englishman looking to seize his chance at Chelsea, there are a number of fringe players that could be included in any such agreement to not only sweeten the deal for Everton, but to axe players who are surplus to requirements from the wage bill.

Quite simply, Romano’s update suggests that Boehly and co are the A-side in this deal, with players such as Ross Barkley, Kenedy, Michy Batshuayi, Ethan Ampadu, Emerson and Armando Broja, etcetera, at their disposal.

A number of the aforementioned will not get a look in this season, so using them as vices to acquire Gordon represents an astute move from Chelsea’s perspective.
