Chelsea are leading the race for the signing of Inter Milan starlet Cesare Casadei.

What’s the word?

That is according to a report from the ever-reliable Fabrizio Romano, who took to Twitter to issue the update.

On his personal Twitter page, Romano said: “Chelsea new proposal for Inter talent Cesare Casadei will be submitted very soon, as Todd Boehly wants to get the deal done this week.

“No issues on personal terms, Inter want more than €15m after two bids refused. Chelsea are ahead of OGC Nice – since last week.”

In a follow-up, the Italian super-journo stated:

“Chelsea are confident to get Cesare Casadei deal done this week, matter of details. The agreement with Inter is getting more than closer, next bid will be the right one to sign Casadei.

“Inter have turned down €12m bid but Chelsea will approach €15m price tag soon.”

Jorginho 2.0

It seems as though new Chelsea-owner and current interim sporting director Todd Boehly is fully committed to his new “scattergun” approach to bringing in high-potential youth prospects.

In Casadei, we could be looking at a long-term replacement for Chelsea captain Jorginho, who is a fellow Italian central midfielder who switched life in the Serie A for the heights of the Premier League back in 2018.

Albeit, Jorginho established himself as a proven asset in the engine room before securing his move to Chelsea, but in Casadei’s case, there is no denying that he is at least proven at youth level.

In 29 Primavera 1 appearances last season, Casadei demonstrated his ability as a progressive midfielder with 17 goal contributions in the form of 13 goals and four assists, in just 29 games.

The 19-year-old is in a similar mould to the 30-year-old, and his ability to add sustainability to the midfield, whilst directly chipping in with goals in testimony to the thought process surrounding this deal.

The update from Romano will surely come as a boost for Chelsea fans who are witnessing their club remain entirely active in the summer market this year.
