Chelsea have received a boost in their pursuit of former Arsenal and now Barcelona star Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
What’s the word?
That is according to a report from the Independent who claim that Barcelona are open to discussions over a fee for the Thomas Tuchel target.
As per the report, it is said that the Chelsea boss retains a strong relationship with the 33-year-old from their shared time at Borussia Dortmund.
Having allowed Romelu Lukaku return to Inter Milan at the start of this summer’s transfer window, Tuchel is keen to sign a striker who can lead the line at Chelsea and former Arsenal captain Aubameyang is now a genuine target for the side, as per the same report.
Thomas Tuchel’s dream
Quite simply, Aubameyang is Tuchel’s dream signing at Chelsea. It’s an asset who still has more to give, is proven in the league and is a victim of the Robert Lewandowski butterfly effect at Barcelona this summer.
The signing of the Polish sensation means that Barcelona would be open to allowing the Gabon international to leave in order to free up funds, amidst their continued financial problems.
As per the aforementioned report by the independent, the Stamford Bridge outfit are interested in the 310-goal veteran and are understood to have been encouraged towards making a reasonable offer, with Barcelona looking to recoup upwards of £20million in order to recoup some of the funds that were used to sign Lewandowski from Bayern Munich.
Despite limited appearances for Arsenal across the first half of the season, Aubameyang’s short spell at Barcelona has been entirely productive and has given him a platform to demonstrate ever-growing goalscoring capabilities, having scored 11 goals in 17 La Liga appearances.
