Reports from the Italian media have suggested that Chelsea midfielder Jorginho will not extend his existing deal with the club, amid reported interest from Serie A giants, Juventus.

What’s the word?

According to journalist Filippo Cornacchia, the Euro 2020 winner could well be set for pastures new in the near future, with the 30-year-old reportedly not set to extend his current contract, which is due to expire in just over a year’s time.

Speaking to CMIT TV (via Sport Witness), Cornacchia shed light on the situation surrounding current Juve man Arthur and how his future could relate to that of the Blues star:

“I don’t know what will happen in June, he (Arthur) will depend on the offer, he can leave and at that point Juventus would try to sign Jorginho, as soon as they can talk to Chelsea,

“Jorginho has a one-year contract that he will not renew. It’s clear that Arthur’s farewell is needed for his arrival.”

A recent report from Tuttosport also suggested that Max Allegri and co were eyeing a deal for the 43-cap international, while the player’s agent, Joao Santos, admitted last year that it would be a “dream” for his client to return to Italy.

Chance for Youth

In the words of talkSPORT pundit Trevor Sinclair, the £40.5m-rated maestro has been “underappreciated” at times despite his impressive displays for both club and country, with the Stamford Bridge outfit likely to suffer a major blow should the former Napoli man depart either this summer or in 12 months time.

Nevertheless, his exit would only serve to hand a greater chance to the club’s young stars, particularly that of Billy Gilmour and Conor Gallagher – both of whom have spent the current campaign out on loan at Norwich City and Crystal Palace, respectively.

The latter man has earned rave reviews for his displays at Selhurst Park, notching eight Premier League goals to date and helping Patrick Vieira’s side to the FA Cup semi-finals, with his absence for that Wembley showdown likely to be keenly felt as the Eagles take on his parent club.

Dubbed like “N’Golo Kante with goals” by Tony Cascarino, the 22-year-old would appear to have the full package as an all-action midfielder, with the latest reports suggesting that he will return to Cobham for pre-season with a view to playing an important role in Thomas Tuchel’s side.

The England international – who has been described as “incredible” by current boss Vieira – has impressed to such an extent that one report suggested the west London side may even shelve their plans to sign West Ham United star Declan Rice, despite having a long-standing interest in the former academy graduate.

As for Gilmour, the young Scotsman has endured a more tricky stint at Carrow Road with the relegation strugglers, although has frequently impressed on the international stage, notably earning comparisons to the likes of Paul Gascoigne and Xavi from former Republic of Ireland international, Jonny Giles.

Sky Sports pundit Roy Keane also suggested that the 20-year-old looked “like a word-class player” following his full Premier League debut two years ago, with the £10.8m-rated man seemingly having the backing of a number of notable figures in the game.

While it’s not all been plain-sailing this term after having shone at last summer’s European Championships, the former Rangers academy ace has still garnered praise from Canaries boss Dean Smith, who suggested that the young starlet has “become a better all-round player” during his stint out on loan.

With Jorginho potentially on his way, Tuchel has the chance to put his faith in these eye-catching youth products next season. It could be a blessing in diguise.
