Fans of Chelsea have poured on to Twitter to reminisce over the career of former Blues striker, Nicolas Anelka.

The trip down memory lane began with a post to the club’s official Twitter account with a video marking 11 years to the day since the Frenchman scored a hat-trick against Sunderland in 2008 (per BBC).

With supporters in awe of the impressive hat-trick all over again, the comments were flooded with praise for the 40-year-old.

The 40-year-old Frenchman’s Chelsea career lasted four years after his £18 million arrival from Bolton in January 2008 (per Transfermarkt).

Anelka left the Blues in January 2012 for SH Shenhua in China, having scored 59 goals and assisted 38 in 184 Chelsea appearances (via Transfermarkt).

With the small reminder of the retired striker’s talents from the club, many fans enjoyed the chance for reminiscing.

What do we think?

While Anelka’s goal return in a Chelsea shirt was by no means consistently prolific (via Transfermarkt), the Frenchman aided Chelsea to one Premier League title, three FA Cup victories and a further two Community Shield triumphs, as well as lifting the Champions League (Transfermarkt).

For only a four-year stay at Stamford Bridge, that was a serious haul of silverware.
