Chelsea fans have taken to Twitter to share their appreciation for Jorginho as he made his first appearance as club captain in Wednesday’s 2-1 defeat to Manchester United in the Carabao Cup.

Chelsea fan Twitter account @FutbolChelsea tweeted their appreciation for Jorginho as he wore the captain’s armband for the first time in last night’s defeat in replace of usual club captain Cesar Azpilicueta.

This tweet then led to some other Chelsea fans praising the Italian.

Under new boss Frank Lampard, the 27-year-old has become a fan-favourite at the West-London club while receiving praise from the manager himself.

What do we think?
It’s good to see Jorginho go from zero to hero in the space of just a year. In 2018, Jorginho made the move from Napoli to Chelsea following in the then Chelsea manager Maurizio Sarri’s footsteps (per Transfermarkt). The Italian has made 15 appearances for Chelsea in all competitions so far this season, the joint most of the Chelsea squad alongside Cesar Azpilicueta, Mason Mount and Kepa Arrizabalaga (per WhoScored), which just goes to show how big of a player he has become for the Blues under Lampard.

Interestingly, in 10 Premier League appearances so far this season, Jorginho has averaged an impressive 87.6% pass success percentage (per WhoScored), as well as 2.5 tackles and 2 interceptions per game.

Indeed, if the midfielder can keep up his good form, he could be a potential Player of the Year candidate for Chelsea.
