Chelsea fans have backed Billy Gilmour for success after his performance in the 2-1 defeat to Manchester United in the Carabao Cup fourth-round on Wednesday night.

After the match, Gilmour took to Twitter to share his disappointment with the result but resilience to continue working hard.

This tweet from the 18-year-old then gathered a lot of replies from Chelsea fans showing their support for the Scottish youngster.

Here’s a sample of Chelsea fans praising Gilmour on his performance and mentality:

The teenager played 70 minutes in the match against United on Wednesday, after playing the full 90 in Chelsea’s third round 7-1 thrashing of League Two side Grimsby Town in September (per WhoScored).

Despite not playing the entire match, Gilmour’s performance still earned him a lot of praise from Chelsea fans.

What do we think?

Despite just being 18 years old, Gilmour has already shown a mature mentality and strong work ethic. His staggered emergence into the Chelsea first-team just goes to show how much faith Chelsea boss Frank Lampard has in the youngster. If he can continue to impress in the opportunities he keeps being given, perhaps we could see Gilmour as a more permanent member of the Chelsea main squad.
