Since returning to the club after a highly successful loan spell at Aston Villa, Tammy Abraham has proceeded to excel for the Blues, scoring seven Premier League goals for Frank Lampard’s side in the 2019/20 campaign.

Abraham, 22, has been a revelation since making the step up to the top-flight this season. After scoring 26 times for Villa in their promotion-winning season from the Championship, the Chelsea academy graduate has shone to cement his place as the Blues’ first-choice striker in 2019/20.

Although Abraham’s initial foray into top-flight football had been somewhat underwhelming, after featuring on loan at Swansea City in the 2017/18 campaign, he has taken to life in the Premier League with considerable aplomb. Though on Wednesday night the 22-year-old added a Champions League goal to his list of achievements in the current campaign.

After receiving the ball from centre-back Fikayo Tomori, Abraham swivelled in the Lille penalty area and planted a fine strike beyond the reach of Mike Maignan.

Having been so impressive so far in the current Premier League campaign, this was an important milestone for Abraham, as he helped his side recover from their defeat to Valencia in the opening group game in September.

Despite the well-documented credentials of fellow striker Olivier Giroud, particularly in European football, this was not only an impressive performance but a symbolic goal in illustrating that Abraham has the ability to lead the Blues’ front line; both domestically and in Europe’s premier club competition.

If the academy graduate is able to build on this promising European performance with further goals in the 2019/20 Champions League, then as a striker in glistening form, Abraham is well on his way to becoming one of Chelsea’s greatest goalscorers in the Premier League era.
