Chelsea fans have taken to Twitter to call for Reece James to start in Wednesday’s match against Manchester United in their fourth-round Carabao Cup showdown.

The official Chelsea Twitter account posted a video of the defender’s goal in their last cup game against Grimsby Town. The 19-year-old assisted the fourth goal and scored the fifth in the 7-1 victory over the League Two side.

The video then gathered a lot of positive responses from Chelsea fans that have called for James to continue his good cup form and start against United on Wednesday.

Here’s a sample of Chelsea fans calling for James to start on Wednesday:

The Englishman has been at the West-London club since 2016, moving up the ranks from youth team to the first team (TransferMarkt). If James were to make an appearance against United on Wednesday, it would earn him his sixth appearance in all competitions this season (TransferMarkt).

Some Chelsea fans see James having a successful career at the club.

What do we think?

James had a fantastic game in his last run out in the Carabao Cup (BBC Sport). A goal and assist for a defender is impressive against any opposition. Frank Lampard will have a tough decision to make when deciding who will start in the right-back position for Chelsea on Wednesday. Does he take a chance on James or stick with Cesar Azpilicueta? One factor that could sway Lampard in his decision is the opposition, as Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial are in a good place after a resounding win over Norwich at the weekend (BBC Sport).
