Fans of Chelsea have taken to Twitter to air their delight that the club’s Under-21 side have progressed in the Leasing.com Trophy.

On Tuesday night the Blues’ Under-21’s progression into the knockout stages of the EFL Trophy, otherwise known as the Leasing.com Trophy, was confirmed.

The youngsters currently top the Southern Group F of the competition, ahead of Plymouth Argyle, Bristol Rovers and Swindon Town.

With the group’s bottom two teams left to play one another in early November and Chelsea having completed all their games sitting top of the table – the youngsters progressed and Blues fans were delighted.

The game on Tuesday night was decided by a 93rd minute Jonathan Russell goal, which put Chelsea’s qualification for the knockout stages beyond doubt.

Having previously beaten Swindon Town 3-2 in early August, the Blues finished in Group F with six points – a feat which the Chelsea faithful found an impressive one.

What do we think?

To secure progression in the competition which, in the majority, is made up of senior professional sides – with the Under-21 teams always playing away from home – is no mean feat.

The prolonged stay for the youngsters in the competition will only benefit the progression of Chelsea’s young players.
