In his pre-match press conference, Frank Lampard confirmed that Antonio Rudiger will miss Chelsea’s Champions League clash against Valencia through injury.
As reported by Chelsea’s official Twitter account, Antonio Rudiger will miss the Blues’ first Champions League game of the season due to a groin injury.
Since joining the club in the summer of 2017, the German international has made 90 appearances. Unfortunately, due to his injury, the 26-year-old has been restricted to only one appearance in the Premier League this season.
The centre-back missed the end of last season and the start of this campaign due to knee surgery. He returned for the Blues against Wolves having played a couple of games in Premier League 2 to regain fitness.
Much to his dismay, and to the disappointment of Chelsea supporters, he only managed 45 minutes of action against Wolves on the weekend.
Given Chelsea’s defensive issues this season, only Norwich City have conceded more goals in the Premier League this season, the return of Rudiger would have been a big boost ahead of the Valencia game.
Now, Chelsea must prepare to face Valencia in their first Champions League without the German international. He could prove to be a big miss for the Blues.
