Chelsea returned to winning ways spectacularly with a 5-2 triumph away at Wolves. The victory was only their second in the league this campaign, but it breeds confidence for the rest of the season.
The timing of Chelsea’s victory was crucial with the Blues hosting Valencia tomorrow night in their inaugural Champions League game of the season. After that, Chelsea welcome the league leaders, Liverpool to Stamford Bridge this weekend.
Beating a team of Wolves’ esteemed capability was a statement of great intent ahead of a busy period for the club.
The challenge of hosting the Champions League holders – who have won all of their games this season – will be more difficult than Wolves.
Although, winning following another disappointing collapse against Sheffield United before the international break, was the best response possible for Lampard’s side.
While Tammy Abraham starred once again for the Blues, the 21-year-old has scored a staggering seven goals in his previous three club appearances. Fikayo Tomori took the early headlines with a truly sensational strike.
There was uncertainty whether the centre-back would stay at Chelsea this season, with Everton reportedly – as per Sky Sports News – interested in signing the defender on loan.
However, David Luiz’s departure meant the 21-year-old would stay at Chelsea, as reported by the Evening Standard.
Tomori has started the last two league games for the Blues, and he scored a superb strike to open the scoring against Wolves.
Here’s how Chelsea fans on social media reacted to his goal:
It takes a lot of self belief to even attempt that. Big ups to Tomori.
