Chelsea have been mightily unlucky with the number of injuries they’ve suffered this season. Unfortunately, Emerson may have joined the Blues’ absentees having sustained an injury while playing for Italy.
Chelsea’s left-back – and one of their best performers this term – was subbed off after only eight minutes in Italy’s 2-1 victory against Finland.
Despite appearing distressed when taken off the field, both Emerson and Roberto Mancini have downplayed the severity of the injury, as per Metro.
However, it’s unsure whether the Italy international will recover in time to face Wolves this weekend.
The Metro report that Marcos Alonso is in line for his first start of the season, if Emerson is unable to play this weekend.
The 25-year-old has started every game for the Blues this season. Indeed, Emerson has dismantled Marcos Alonso as Chelsea’s starting left-back, and the timing of the injury is unfortunate for the Italian.
As reported by Football.London, Chelsea have nine first-team players injured at the moment, with the likes of N’golo Kante, Pedro, Mateo Kovacic and now Emerson, sustaining injuries since the season started.
Given the number of absentees, Chelsea can ill-afford more injuries. The Blues are in desperate need of a victory against Wolves following a difficult start to the new season.
The news of Emerson’s injury came as a great disappointment to Chelsea fans on social media.
Here’s the reaction:
Just tell me it's not serious, Emerson's injury.
Else, we'd be shipping in goals like imports.— Timi Esq., (@timiilori) September 9, 2019
Emerson’s injury couldn’t have come at a worse time. You’re telling me we’ve got to play Wolves, Valencia and Liverpool with Marcos Alonso at Left Back?
We’re finished.

The Italy manager Roberto Mancini said it was nothing serious after the match but that can mean a week or two injury and not months. Who knows the full meaning till he has the checks tomorrow
