Chelsea’s inability to complete their inspired comeback in a 2-1 defeat to Liverpool was disappointing, but one young star’s display provided cause for enthusiasm.

Fikayo Tomori received public praise from Frank Lampard for his performance in Chelsea’s slender 2-1 loss to Liverpool.

Before the season started, it was uncertain whether Fiakyo Tomori would be involved in Frank Lampard’s squad.

The 21-year-old spent the duration of last season on loan at Derby County, managed by Frank Lampard. Despite impressing with the Rams – Tomori was named their player of the year – it appeared that the centre-back was poised to leave the Blues.

Everton were reportedly interested in the Englishman’s services, but David Luiz’s sudden and unexpected move to Arsenal changed everything for Tomori.

Since Luiz’s departure, the youngster has seized his opportunities emphatically. The defender has made five appearances in all competitions for the Blues this season (as per Transfermarkt). He has played the entire ninety minutes in four games, including the Blues’ most recent league game against Liverpool.

Against the European Champions, Tomori performed with exemplary composure and confidence. He kept Mohammed Salah – one of the most decorated attackers in the world – quiet throughout the game.

It was a tremendous performance, and one appreciated by manager and supporters alike. Here’s how Chelsea fans reacted to his display on social media:
