Since moving to Chelsea from Napoli at the start of last season, Jorginho has quickly become one of the Blues’ most important players. This week, the midfielder has shown how influential he is to Italy, too.
Alongside Emerson, Jorginho produced a tremendous performance for Italy as they defeated Armenia 3-1 in their Euro 2020 qualifier.
The 27-year-old featured in a staggering 54 games for the Blues last season, and he was an integral figure in Chelsea’s triumphant Europa League campaign.
Frank Lampard’s appointment as Chelsea manager hasn’t impacted the midfielder’s influence.
Chelsea’s all-time leading scorer has started Jorginho in every game so far this term. The Italy international scored a penalty in the Blues’ narrow European Super Cup final defeat to Liverpool.
Such has been Jorginho’s commanding displays for club and country; many Chelsea fans have tipped the midfielder to become the club’s next captain.
Given the midfielder’s authority and influence at Chelsea, it wouldn’t be an unlikely proposition to see the 27-year-old parade the captain’s armband before the end of his career with the Blues.
