Chelsea’s pre-season friendly with Borussia Monchengladbach was hardly a momentous occasion for anyone but it was for Andreas Christensen as he returned to the club he enjoyed two years at for the very first time.

The Denmark international joined Chelsea aged just 15 from Brondby IF and signed his first professional contract in the summer of 2013 but was sent out on a two-year loan spell to the Bundesliga side where he made a name for himself.

He has since gone on to play 72 times in West London but only featured in eight Premier League fixtures last term under ex-boss Maurizio Sarri.

Christensen played the entire duration of the game at centre-back next to another player who has spend most of his Chelsea career out on loan in Kurt Zouma.

Frank Lampard needed a pair of successfully-converted penalties from Tammy Abraham and then Ross Barkley to come from behind to draw the game over in Germany.

The 23-year-old’s comments post-match sparked some reaction from the Chelsea fanbase.

One supporter labelled him “my CB” whilst another said he was the best central defender at the club. Others said to watch out as he will become world class within a few years which was echoed by another fan who said he had a great future. Some believed that Christensen would make a good partner for Antonio Rudiger when he returns from his injury.
