Chelsea were defeated on penalties in the UEFA Super Cup on Wednesday night after Adrian, deputising for the injured Alisson, saved the final spot-kick from Tammy Abraham.

Blues boss Frank Lampard went with a similar back four but made changes in midfield and attack, operating a slightly tweaked system as N’Golo Kante, Olivier Giroud and Christian Pulisic were all given starts.

That meant Emerson continued to keep hold of his place at left-back ahead of Marcos Alonso who was first-choice last season, making 31 appearances, and it appears his performance has impressed fans at Stamford Bridge…

One supporter called him the best left-back in the Premier League whilst one went even further calling him the ‘best left-back in the world.’

Others believed that the 25-year-old would go straight to the top with an additional fan claiming he was improving game by game.

Emerson also looked the part against Manchester United despite a 4-0 thumping so it seems as if the left-back position is his under Lampard.

Here’s the best of the reaction:
