Another one of Chelsea’s promising youth talents has joined the ever-growing list to sign a new long-term contract extension. First it was Ruben Loftus-Cheek then it was Mason Mount and now goalkeeper Jamie Cumming has signed a contract keeping him at the club until 2023.

Cumming has featured in a couple of Chelsea’s pre-season games and has been at the club since the age of eight, progressing up the youth ranks.

The Winchester-born shot-stopper hasn’t played any competitive games for the senior side yet in his career but was named on the bench for Chelsea’s Europa League triumph against Arsenal.

This extension could be an indication towards manager Frank Lampard’s future intentions in that department – especially with current back-up keeper Willy Caballero rapidly approaching his 38th birthday.

The 19-year-old has represented England internationally, playing for both the under-17s and more recently the under-19s. He may get the opportunity to work under Chelsea’s legendary goalie Petr Cech after he returned to the club in an advisory capacity following retirement this off-season.

A number of Chelsea fans flocked to Twitter to share their thoughts on the contract extension with many praising the young prospect.

One supporter said Cumming was one for the future whilst another hoped the starlet would get a run out in the first-team at some stage next season. Others said the contract extension was fully deserved, telling the 19-year-old to keep it up. There was also praise for Blues boss Lampard with one fan believing his ‘effect’ is starting to really show.
