According to the Daily Mail, Brighton and Hove Albion are interested in taking Chelsea midfielder Danny Drinkwater on loan with many fans at the club desperately hoping the move happens ahead of the summer transfer deadline on Thursday.

Drinkwater has been left in limbo after being excluded from manager Frank Lampard’s squad for their final pre-season friendly against Borussia Monchengladbach along with fellow flop Tiemoue Bakayoko.

The future of the pair at Stamford Bridge is surely coming to an end if viable suitors can be found.

The 29-year-old has made just 23 appearances for the Blues since joining in September 2017 and last season failed to make a single appearance under former boss Maurizio Sarri barring a 30-minute spell in the Community Shield.

Drinkwater, who won a Premier League title with Leicester City, cost the club £35m and signed a five-year contract meaning he still has three years to run on that deal.

A number of fans took to Twitter to share their thoughts about a potential departure.

One supporter said it was the best news he had heard all day whilst another claimed it would be a ‘win-win’ deal for both Chelsea and Brighton.

Other than that, the general consensus saw many fans pleading with the club to let him go – one member of the Stamford Bridge support asked the club to pay half his salary if that were a problem and an additional fan echoed that by saying ‘we will pay you to take him!’
