With Gary Cahill having left the club after the expiration of his contract, fans reckon they know who the next captain should be.

While a formal announcement hasn’t been made, the next Chelsea captain is thought to be Cesar Azpilicueta, who was vice-captain last season and who deputised for Cahill during his prolonged absence from the side last season. And after his comments in an interview, fans seem to agree that the 29-year-old could be the perfect man for the role.

Azpilicueta said: “All the players, staff and fans are excited and now the only way we can get it started is by being together as a club.” (Source: Chelsea FC)


Azpilicueta has been at Chelsea since joining the club in 2012 from Ligue 1 club Marseille. The Spaniard has made 337 appearances, winning six major honours at the club.

After such a long time at the club, fans seem to love Azpilicueta and gave him their full backing as captain.
