Karen Carney, a legend of the women’s game, has announced today that she will be retiring from football.
Carney has enjoyed a glittering career in the women’s game spanning 10 years. The 31-year-old has played for Arsenal, Birmingham City, Chelsea and Chicago Red Stars.

However, it is her England career which is the stand-out achievement for Carney, as she’s made a mammoth 143 caps while scoring 32 times.
Most recently, Carney was part of the England squad who were knocked out of the World Cup at the hands of reigning champions United States on Tuesday evening.
Saturday’s third-place playoff against Sweden will be Carney’s last game as a footballer, and fans sent their good wishes to the England star.
